DESIGN NAME: Dualcon
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multi Supply Assistive Devices
INSPIRATION: Although traditional assistive devices have their functions, they often lack flexibility and adaptability when used in different scenarios. Many of these devices are designed for specific conditions, making it difficult for users to transition smoothly between different environments or activities. As a result, they may not effectively address the diverse mobility challenges faced by individuals in their daily lives.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Dualcon is a versatile mobility device that combines a walker (for independent movement) and an electric-assisted scooter. It simplifies operation while allowing users to switch modes based on different situations, ensuring effortless independence and enhancing daily mobility, comfort, and convenience.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When users need to combine the walker with the mobility scooter, they first align the walker with the scooter’s designated track and slide it into position. Then, by rotating the locking pin, they secure the front and rear sections, preventing any shaking or detachment during use. Finally, pressing the slide button activates the pedal mechanism, fully connecting the walker and scooter, ensuring that the user’s feet remain stable. Once these steps are completed, the user can drive the mobility scooter, making it suitable for long-distance travel, such as shopping, strolling, or moving around a community.
If the user want to switch back to walker mode, they can easily follow the separation process. First, they hold the lock key and rotate the pin to release the walker’s fixation. Then, pressing the slide button moves the pedal backward, creating the necessary space for detachment. Finally, the user stands in the space created by the retracted pedal and pushes the walker forward to separate it from the scooter. This allows the user to utilize the walker independently for short-distance walking without relying on the scooter, enhancing flexibility.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2024 and finished in January 2025 ,the project implemented in Shih Chien University.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To ensure a more stable connection between the front (walker) and the rear (electric mobility scooter), three fixed positioning points are used to secure both ends. These include a pin with a screw structure, a clamp that secures the walker by adjusting up and down, and a latch similar to a train coupler that connects the front and rear ends. Users can switch modes as needed through a few simple steps or with electronic assistance.
