DESIGN NAME: The Joy of Rest
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential Interior
INSPIRATION: The design was inspired by the growing need for a peaceful, functional space within compact urban living environments. The motive was to transform a limited approx. 66-sqm area into a comfortable, modern home that serves as a retreat from daily stress. Research into space optimization and modern hotel-style design led to the use of neutral tones, sustainable materials, and functional layouts, ensuring both aesthetics and practicality.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design maximizes an approx. 66-sqm space with modern hotel-style aesthetics, emphasizing functionality and relaxation. By merging the master and secondary bedrooms, storage space is increased, enhancing the layout. Natural materials like E1-grade panels, stone, and eco-friendly finishes create a sustainable, healthy environment. The design focuses on comfort, with an inviting ambiance that allows homeowners to unwind and recharge in a tranquil, modern setting.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design enhances daily living by creating a seamless flow between spaces, ensuring effortless movement and functionality. Smart zoning adapts to different needs, while built-in storage keeps the home organized. Soft lighting and natural materials create a calming ambiance. Every element is designed to maximize comfort and relaxation, transforming the space into a peaceful retreat for its residents.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in September 2024 in New Taipei City, Taiwan, and was completed in December 2024. Designed to optimize space and comfort, it embodies a modern hotel-style home. The project has since been showcased as a prime example of functional and aesthetic living in a compact urban environment.

CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was optimizing comfort and functionality within a limited 66-sqm space while maintaining a modern hotel-style aesthetic. Balancing privacy, openness, and storage required innovative layout solutions. Structural limitations and building regulations also influenced design choices. Through careful spatial planning, multi-functional furniture, and sustainable materials, we overcame these challenges to create a relaxing, efficient living environment.
