DESIGN NAME: Veins of Stone
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential
INSPIRATION: Returning from overseas, the client envisioned a home that anchors new beginnings while reflecting personal identity. The design stemmed from a marble selection rich in dark hues and metallic sheen, its bold patterns flowing like a painting. This choice sets the tone for a refined living environment where material, emotion, and the surrounding landscape merge into a cohesive spatial experience.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This design transforms a long abandoned shell into a refined modern residence deeply connected to its natural surroundings. The marble island anchors the entire space with art alike presence. Full height windows frame the creek and forest view as living scenery. Smart systems and hidden structures enable seamless operation. Custom illuminated storage and precision material integration elevate the home beyond typical residential design.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The master suite frames nature through full height windows, with a cushioned bay inviting quiet retreat. A concealed door leads to a boutique style dressing room, where warm tones and glass panels create a curated display of textures and light. The corridor evolves into a refined feature wall, integrating dark cabinetry and glowing shelves. Light traces the material grains, blending function and elegance into a seamless daily ritual.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project is located in Beitou, Taiwan. The design development commenced in June 2023 and was completed in January 2025.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design focuses on precise material articulation and refines spatial flow. Natural marble was carefully selected and mockup tested six times to achieve the ideal grain alignment. Stainless steel cabinetry, low iron glass, and brushed metal finishes were integrated for durability and texture. A 150 cm motorized entrance door was custom engineered to balance weight and smooth operation. Smart systems were fully embedded to synchronize lighting, climate, and sound.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The project spans one hundred sixty five square meters, planned with three bedrooms, two living areas, and a kitchen. Luxurious layers are crafted with metal, glass, and premium brands. Bathrooms feature stainless steel cabinets for durability, moisture resistance, and recyclability, aligning with circular economy principles. Eco certified wood reduces formaldehyde emissions for healthier living. Smart systems manage lighting and air conditioning for energy efficiency. The island base includes glass display cabinets with frosted stainless steel framing and concealed lighting.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The study explored material precision, proportion, and smart integration to balance aesthetics and function. Methods included six marble mockup tests, lighting simulations, and system trials. Data came from onsite prototyping with material and system teams. Results optimized stone alignment, lighting, and controls. Insights strengthened design execution, offering replicable strategies for luxury residential projects and enhancing industry standards.
CHALLENGE: The greatest challenge became a key achievement. The large, motorized door required custom engineering to balance weight and motion. Smart system integration involved dense wiring, demanding careful planning to ensure stability and maintenance access. Material coordination, especially marble alignment, pushed production precision. These challenges strengthened collaboration and elevated both design and technical execution.
