| DESIGN NAME: Starry Night PRIMARY FUNCTION: Diamond Ring INSPIRATION: The ring is inspired by the famous painting of Van Gogh. The spiral shoulder, paired with stones set in it, echoes the swirling starry sky depicted in the artwork. The crystal clear natural diamonds sharply contrast with 18K gold in a cool tone, enhancing visual impact. The mortise and tenon joints for physical connection of modules result in a seamless surface, ensuring structural strength and aesthetic appeal. The artistic, modular product well caters to the pursuit of unique jewelry. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This diamond ring integrates the swirling sky in The Starry Night of Van Gogh into jewelry design. It utilizes the exclusive 3D pave setting technique to surround the center stone with side stones. This leads to dynamic light reflection, reminiscent of the starry sky. Such an artistic, modern ring embodies a perfect fusion of exquisite craftsmanship and cultural essence, while also fully satisfying the demand of consumers for attractive and unique jewelry. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The meticulously designed inner curve of the shank perfectly fits the finger, with smooth and rounded edges effectively preventing discomfort or scratches. The ring is easy to wear without complicated adjustments. This product allows users to customize the size as needed, well applicable to different finger shapes. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Hong Kong in December 2022, and finished in March 2023. The product was officially launched at offline physical stores in April 2023. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design team has translated the hand drawn sketch into a digital model through CAD, and then created a 3D model, with details precisely carved by hand. The initial body of the ring is cast in the precious metal, followed by coarse and fine grinding for a smooth surface and natural edge transition. Additionally, the center stone is fixed by four prongs to maximize light transmission and diamond fire, while side stones utilize the micro pave setting technique for visual continuity. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 20.3mm*10mm*26mm TAGS: artistic diamond ring, 3D pave setting technique, modular design, mortise and tenon joints, 18k gold RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This ring ingeniously marries art with jewelry through innovative craftsmanship. Inspired by the starry sky, the product employs the exclusive 3D pave setting technique and the mortise and tenon joints, successfully transforming the swirling sky in the oil painting into a wearable piece of art. This breaks away from traditional diamond ring designs, enhances visual layering, and embodies spirit of exploration and eternal pursuit to evoke emotional resonance. CHALLENGE: The challenge was transforming the swirling starry sky in the painting into a 3D jewelry piece. To address that, the design team has adopted the exclusive 3D pave setting technique and the mortise and tenon joints. This not only enables the center stone and side stones to complement each other for dynamic light reflection, but also achieves an innovative spiral shape and effectively avoids metal fatigue related to traditional welding technology, showing a perfect blend of technology and art.
