DESIGN NAME: Fragments
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sustainable Decorative Objects
INSPIRATION: Fragments was born from the desire to give new life to discarded marble, transforming waste into timeless design. Inspired by nature's ability to reshape materials over time, the collection follows an organic process: each piece emerging from the core of another. This approach not only minimizes waste but also highlights the beauty of imperfection, embracing sustainability as both a concept and an aesthetic principle.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Fragments is a collection of decorative objects crafted from discarded marble, transforming waste into timeless design pieces. Each object, tables, vases, and candle holders, is carved from the core of another, ensuring zero material waste. The collection embodies sustainability, craftsmanship, and contemporary aesthetics, making each piece a unique work of art that merges innovation with environmental consciousness.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Fragments invites interaction through its sculptural presence and modular concept. The pieces can be displayed individually or as a set, creating a harmonious composition. The vases, candle holders, and table share a design language that emphasizes continuity, as each emerges from the core of another. This approach not only enhances visual cohesion but also reinforces sustainability, offering a conscious and elegant way to incorporate natural materials into everyday spaces.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started with an idea in March 2023 in Itajai, Santa Catarina, and was completed in September 2024 in Itapema, Santa Catarina, where it was launched to the public in a signature showcase at Araucaria Moveis.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Fragments is crafted using advanced stone-cutting techniques combined with traditional craftsmanship. Each piece is extracted from the core of another, utilizing precision CNC machining to maximize material efficiency. The finishing process includes hand-polishing and sealing to enhance durability while preserving the natural beauty of the marble. This innovative method ensures zero waste, transforming discarded stone into elegant, sustainable design objects.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Fragments collection includes:
Vases: 500 x 100 mm, 400 x 100 mm, 300 x 100 mm
Candle holders: 400 x 50 mm, 350 x 50 mm, 300 x 50 mm
Side table: 300 mm diameter tabletop, 450 mm height
All pieces are crafted from solid marble, ensuring durability and a timeless aesthetic. The collection follows a zero-waste production approach, where each object is carved from the core of another.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research explored circular design in furniture and decor, focusing on repurposing discarded marble. Using CNC cutting techniques, we developed a modular, nested approach that minimizes waste, achieving nearly zero material loss. This innovation merges sustainability with luxury, proving that high-end design can be both responsible and beautiful. The study promotes a shift in the industry, encouraging more conscious material use and sustainable product development.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was transforming discarded marble into a cohesive collection without generating additional waste. The nested design required precise CNC cutting to ensure each piece emerged from the core of another, demanding extensive material studies and prototyping. Balancing sustainability with high-end aesthetics was also crucial, proving that circular design can align with luxury without compromising quality or visual appeal.
