| DESIGN NAME: Nomadic Inflatable PRIMARY FUNCTION: Camping Tent INSPIRATION: The design inspiration for this nomadic-style inflatable camping tent comes from the usage scenarios, structure, and exterior design of traditional Kyrgyz yurts. The inspiration and elements were collected during our on-site research and exchanges in Kyrgyzstan. Therefore, we have given this product a greater mission: to showcase the charm of culture and traditional craftsmanship. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The dome of a nomadic yurt symbolizes the starry universe, and we have recreated this element at the top of the tent. This tent uses inflatable air columns as its supporting structure, with inflation powered by an electric air pump. Once deflated, it can be easily stored in a car trunk. The tent can be set up by one person, with inflation taking just a few minutes, which is much quicker than the traditional yurt, which requires dozens of people and takes several minutes to assemble. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This tent is easy to transport and use, and once deflated and stored, it can be conveniently placed in a car trunk. It can be set up by one person without assistance, and inflation can be completed in just a few minutes. Compared to the traditional yurt, which requires many people and a lengthy setup process, this tent offers a much quicker and simpler solution for families looking to take short trips to the outskirts of the city. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2023 in Kyrgyzstan and finished in May 2024 in Zhuhai, China, and was exhibited in "Innovative Horizons: A Showcase of Design Excellence" in June 2024 in Singapore. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In terms of materials, the tent features transparent TPU, mesh fabric, and cloth layered together to create multi-layered doors and windows. Reflective strips have been added to the fabric, blending the nomadic wilderness style with a futuristic sense of technology. The color palette is inspired by the natural landscapes of nomadic peoples, using earthy tones to promote Kyrgyz culture while aligning the nomadic spirit with contemporary camping culture. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 3200mm x Depth 3200mm x Height 2200mm TAGS: Nomad, Camping tent, Inflatable structure, Lightweight camping RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In Kyrgyzstan, we built a traditional yurt and studied its structure, while surveying locals about their weekend travel and product needs. Afterward, we researched in Zhuhai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou, selecting a lightweight camping tent with inflatable air columns. We found that local families often take short trips and use both yurts and modern tents, expressing interest in a product that combines modern convenience with traditional yurt elements. CHALLENGE: I learned to combine traditional and modern design, improving my skills. The tent's structure balanced tradition with safety and portability. Teamwork helped optimize the design for both cultural and modern needs. I'll focus on better planning in future projects. We have created a brand concept of "Made in Kyrgyzstan" based on nomadic culture, and this tent is one of the products in this system. The brand modernizes and rejuvenates traditional Kyrgyz elements, injecting a new model into the popular camping movement. |
