DESIGN NAME: Brilliant Milky Way
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: The homeowner has a clear preference for black, white, and gray, giving the space a minimalist, understated elegance while maintaining depth. To balance the cool tones, the designers incorporated warm light sources and contrasting materials, creating a soft, inviting atmosphere. Reflective surfaces add a touch of brilliance, like a dazzling Milky Way. The design also prioritizes functionality, with ample storage solutions integrated seamlessly into the layout, ensuring the space is as practical as it is stylish for daily life.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The living room's TV wall is the focal point, featuring a large marble surface mimicking a starry sky, with black mirrors and metal trim panels adding visual depth. Curved metal film covering wood panels breaks the rigidity of straight lines, while the flowing curves add an aesthetic softness to the space. The kitchen island blends practicality and beauty, with one side as an appliance cabinet and the other recessed for stroller and shopping bag storage. The entrance hall has a full wall of storage with indirect lighting, creating a sleek, clean atmosphere.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After moving in, the most significant change the homeowner experienced is the 'sense of order brought about by the storage design.' Items that were previously stacked haphazardly are now neatly hidden from view, thanks to meticulously planned cabinetry structures, creating a simplified and organized home. Additionally, the depth of the television cabinet was specially increased, allowing for ample storage of large suitcases and other items. This thoughtful and detailed planning further enhances the convenience of daily living.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in September 2024 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The material selection for the project is based on large areas of light tones, complemented by dark-toned system panels to enhance the layers, paired with natural marble, metal film decorative panels, and black mirrors, crafting a diverse interplay of light and shadow. The doors utilize a special baking paint technique, giving them a matte metallic texture. Light subtly sinks into the matte surface, displaying a delicate yet not overly ostentatious beauty, allowing the overall space to exude an elegant luster within its understated luxury.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The total area of the venue is 59.5 square meters, featuring three bedrooms, a living room, and a dining area. The ample number of rooms, along with pre-allocated desks and beds, can meet various flexible changes in the residents' future lifestyles. The original semi-enclosed kitchen was customized and transformed into an open plan, enhancing visual continuity and natural lighting efficiency. The expansive view creates an immediate impression of stepping into a boundless galaxy upon entering.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Located in Xitun District, Taichung City, 'Brilliant Milky Way' features a minimalist palette of black, white, and gray. Star-patterned marble, gray mirrors, and metal panels highlight the living room TV wall, creating depth. The curved metal film covering wood panels softens the rigidity of straight lines, adding flow to the space. Special attention was given to storage, with a functional kitchen island-one side for appliances and the other recessed to accommodate a baby stroller. The design perfectly balances practicality with aesthetics.
CHALLENGE: The project was initially started by another design company and later taken over, requiring adjustments to plumbing and wiring systems. Special attention was given to optimizing air conditioning drainage and the ceiling structure to maximize the space's height. A key challenge arose in the television wall design, where seamless transitions between marble, mirrors, and curved wood panels had to be achieved. The construction team carefully ensured that the thicknesses of these materials aligned perfectly, creating a visually smooth and cohesive appearance.
