DESIGN NAME: Luminous Drift
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: The project embodies a couple's vision of an ideal home-blending the refined elegance of a luxury hotel with a break from conventional residential design. Centered on a 'hotel-like style,' it seamlessly integrates flowing curves, artistic wall finishes, and sophisticated lighting. Each space reveals a unique character, shaped by rhythmic curves and textured walls that subtly shift with time. Adaptive lighting enhances the ambiance, aligning with the residents' pace. This thoughtful approach balances artistry and comfort, fulfilling their dream of a home that is both aesthetically refined and warmly inviting.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The ceiling features fluid curves, forming layered inverted trapezoidal and arched structures that create a cave-like depth. Instead of recessed lighting, LED strips outline the space, fostering a soft ambiance. The L-shaped kitchen light strip serves both function and style while skirting lights subtly guide the cat at night. Lighting wattage is precisely adjusted: ambient wall strips at 6.7W for glare-free comfort, ceiling strips at 14W for depth, and kitchen island lighting at 9.6W for warmth and functionality, ensuring a perfect balance of aesthetics and practicality.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: From lighting ambiance to smart home integration, every detail is tailored for modern living, making homecoming a ritual of relaxation. With one touch, 'Home Mode' adjusts lighting to a warm hue while curtains close, evoking a luxury hotel feel. The audiovisual system syncs with an automated vacuum and mopping robot, ensuring effortless maintenance. This design seamlessly blends functionality and technology, enhancing daily life. Residents can unwind the moment they step inside, fully embracing their sanctuary with comfort and ease.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in December 2024 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The materials include woodwork, curved panels, laminated flooring, tiles, modular cabinetry, and artistic paint. To balance the cave-like aesthetic with warmth, the palette features beige-gray and light-gray tones for a soft yet refined foundation. A cocoa-colored TV wall adds depth, while deep gray artistic coatings enrich the textures. A cream-colored sofa brightens the space with a warm glow. Both flooring and cabinetry use sustainable materials, reflecting an eco-conscious commitment. This thoughtful selection ensures a harmonious blend of elegance, comfort, and environmental responsibility.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The site spans 92.5 square meters. Originally a three-bedroom, two-bathroom layout, it was reconfigured by swapping the study and master bedroom to enhance circulation and create a more open feel. The study features moru glass partitions, allowing ample natural light. The open-plan social area seamlessly connects the living room, dining area, and kitchen for an unobstructed view and relaxed ambiance. In contrast, the private spaces incorporate graceful curves and indirect lighting for depth and serenity. Thoughtful storage and wardrobe solutions ensure a convenient, well-organized living environment.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The 'Luminous Drift' project is inspired by the ceiling's fluid, wave-like curves that evoke floating light. Indirect lighting seeps through each arc, creating a soft interplay of light and shadow. The deep gray palette anchors the space, while the striking ceiling features LED strips tracing geometric lines for a distinctive effect. The open-plan kitchen, with dark cabinetry and an extended island, integrates a relaxed dining area. In the master bedroom, Japanese Zen elements, wooden lattices, U-shaped light strips, and a pet resting area add tranquil, thoughtful touches to the design.
CHALLENGE: The integration of curved forms into the ceiling was the project's greatest challenge. Each curve had to maintain precise angle consistency, requiring laser positioning during construction to ensure accuracy and a smooth, harmonious result. Additionally, relocating the master bedroom required a complete reconfiguration of existing pipeline routes to prevent interference with other spaces. At the same time, careful attention was given to maintaining the seamless operation of air conditioning, ventilation, and dehumidification systems within the confined space, ensuring both functionality and comfort.
