DESIGN NAME: Yin And Yang
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Ring
INSPIRATION: This ring is inspired by the Chinese concept of Yin and Yang, which represents the two opposing forces that brought order to the universe from chaos. Beyond its cosmic significance, this duality also reflects the inner contrasts within every human being like the coexistence of light and dark, strength and vulnerability that shape our thoughts, actions, and daily lives. It embodies these seemingly opposing ideas, demonstrating that harmony and contrast are not contradictions but rather complementary.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: My goal was to reinvent the classic bypass ring by giving its two parts distinct curves and varying heights and inclinations. Not only that, but I also sought to create a piece that was both innovative and elegant. Most importantly, I wanted it to be truly eye catching, a design that stands apart from the many bypass rings commonly seen. The interplay of pearls, asymmetric movement, and dual rhodium finish embody the harmony of contrasts, making this ring a bold yet timeless statement.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This ring is designed as an extension of the wearer, merging fluidity with structure. Its asymmetric curves and dynamic movement create a continuous interplay of light and shadow, evolving with every gesture. The carefully balanced weight ensures a comfortable fit, preventing rotation while enhancing a sense of natural harmony. More than a jewel, it is an intimate piece that embodies duality, elegance and strength, contrast and unity, becoming a timeless expression of individuality.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2023 in Pavia and finished in December 2023.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: I meticulously designed the model using Rhinoceros 3D software, then brought it to life through casting, setting, and hand finishing, following traditional jewelry making techniques. To protect the pearls from the rhodium plating process, the white pearl was drilled through and secured with an invisible screw. This final step was the most delicate, as after finishing, polishing, and setting, the ring could not be scratched, nor could the diamonds be displaced.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This ring fits within a 22 x 34 x 22 cm box. Crafted from 18K white gold, it features an Australian pearl, a rare gray Akoya pearl, high quality colorless E VVS Natural Diamonds, and gray diamonds. The shank is half plated in white rhodium and half in black rhodium to enhance contrast. The white pearl is securely fastened with an invisible screw, ensuring durability. The ring comes in a luxury presentation box with a dedicated certificate detailing its craftsmanship and materials.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This project began with a study of Yin and Yang, which teaches that everything holds the seed of its opposite, not to dissolve into it, but to affirm the cycle of change and continuity. I reinterpreted the bypass ring, choosing pearls as organic symbols, whose interplay embodies harmony through cyclical change. The process culminated in solving technical challenges, from securing the pearl without a cup to achieving contrasting rhodium finishes while preserving material integrity.
CHALLENGE: As I reimagined the classic bypass ring while pursuing a timeless design, three main challenges emerged. First, I aimed to enhance movement and break traditional symmetry by playing with the different heights and inclinations of the two pearls while preserving balance and elegance. Contrast played a central role, both to reflect the Yin Yang concept and create dynamic visual interest. Finally, ensuring physical balance was essential to prevent rotation, requiring precise weight distribution.
