| DESIGN NAME: Inside Out PRIMARY FUNCTION: Toy Furniture INSPIRATION: This product was inspired by the shape of toys that children play with. The older I get, the more I think that small furniture for children looks like cute toys. We came up with a product that gives form to this lovely feeling. Is this product furniture for children? Is it a big toy for adults to play with? We aimed to create a flexible and unique product that both adult and children can think about and enjoy together, just as they would play with a toy. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: It can be used as a small stool and mini table set for children, or as a set of two stools for parents and children to use together. The light green three-legged stool can be inserted from all four sides of the box and played with like a puzzle. There is no one right way to use it. The user can experiment with various ways of using the product in his or her own fun way, which brings out the pure imagination and intuition of the user. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This piece is an experimental product that is not only practical, but is also fun to use, as it explores how people feel and what actions they take when they see it. The unique, pop visuals will surprise and delight those who see it. Appropriate dimensions have been considered, anticipating a variety of possible uses, and by deliberately not restricting it to a single use, it draws out the pure imagination of the person who will use it. This product will further expand children's imaginations and stimulate the curiosity of adults as well. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2024 and ended in September 2024. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: White ash wood was used as the material. In order to express the texture of a child's toy, it was solidly colored with car paint and given a fun and vibrant color scheme throughout.In order to eliminate the wood grain, the surface was polished many times with fine sandpaper to give it a fine and smooth texture.All corners are slightly rounded to make it safe for young children to handle. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 300mm x Depth 300mm x Height 420mm TAGS: Toy, Colorful, Fun, Playfulness, Curiosity, Wonder, Adorable, Table, Stool, Kids RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We aimed to create a product that everyone, regardless of age or gender, could enjoy thinking about together and engage with with a sense of fun and freshness. We aimed for a mysterious shape that would not immediately reveal what the product is at first glance, and we were conscious of creating time for users to think about how to use it in their own fun way, just like playing with a toyThe outside of the box is simple white and the inside is bright green, making both children and adults want to take a peek inside. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge in creating this product was to consider the dimensions so that one product could be used in various ways, such as as a table for children or a chair for adults. We considered the appropriate dimensions of the product based on ergonomics, and were conscious of not losing the overall cute, toy-like impression.
