DESIGN NAME: Verisure
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Digital Hiv Testing Assistant
INSPIRATION: This project is inspired by the emotional and psychological challenges users face when taking an hiv self-test. Stigma, lack of guidance, and emotional distress can delay testing and treatment. Many users feel anxious, fearful of the result, and uncertain about what to do next.
The technology uses oral fluid testing, which is less invasive and more accessible than blood tests. This improves early detection and reduces treatment delays.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This Digital hiv Testing Assistant goes beyond simple testing by providing a guided, supportive, and stress-free experience. It includes step-by-step test instructions, a calming pre-test feature, result interpretation, and easy access to follow-up care. The built-in map helps users find nearby clinics, while customizable reminders encourage regular testing. Designed with privacy, and accessibility in mind, it transforms self-testing into a seamless and reassuring process.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: VeriSure is designed to be simple and supportive, guiding users through the HIV self-testing process with ease. Before obtaining a test kit, users can download the app from the App Store to explore step-by-step guidance on how to prepare for and take the test.
To ensure a stress-free experience, the app includes animated 3D video instructions and a calming feature to help users feel at ease. Beyond testing, VeriSure provides educational resources to help users understand HIV, a map to locate nearby healthcare providers, and a reminder function for those who may need more time before taking the test. Every feature is designed to support users emotionally and practically throughout their journey

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The research phase utilized Miro, UserTesting, and FigJam to gather insights on user behavior, emotional challenges, and usability needs. The visual design was crafted in Figma, Rhino, and KeyShot, ensuring a user-friendly and intuitive interface. The implementation is built on Flutter, leveraging was for secure data management. The hiv test kit employs an Oral Specimen Collection Device that detects hiv-1 and hiv-2 antibodies, approved for oral fluid, plasma, and whole blood specimens, making it suitable for both clinical and non-clinical settings.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The design focuses on optimizing the user experience for mobile applications, ensuring accessibility and ease of use. The mobile version is designed primarily for ios, with adaptability for various screen resolutions and device types to ensure a seamless experience across different platforms. The interface is crafted with responsive design principles, allowing for smooth navigation and interaction regardless of screen size.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Through extensive surveys, expert interviews, and academic research, I explored the challenges users face when undergoing hiv testing. User interviews provided real-life stories, revealing both personal and societal struggles that make the experience even more daunting. To deepen the technological aspect, I analyzed various hiv testing methods and identified the most accessible self-testing solution to enhance flexibility and encourage early diagnosis. Through iterative prototyping and usability testing, the application was refined based on user feedback. These combined methods, along with prior research on the target audience, enabled me to fully realize the project.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was addressing the emotional burden of hiv self-testing. Research showed that fear, stigma, and anxiety often cause users to delay or avoid testing. Balancing clear instructions with emotional support was key. We designed calming animations, customizable reminders, and easy access to care facilities. Additionally, ensuring privacy while providing accurate results required careful ux and technical considerations, overcoming both social stigma and technological limitations
