DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Ripple of Knowledge

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Library

INSPIRATION:
In terms of spatial design, the concept of ripples serves as the central theme. Curved elements are used to define different zones, while low-height cabinets function as storage, seating, and space dividers, maintaining a sense of openness and visual continuity. The curved cabinets and flowing light strips create a natural, fluid circulation path, establishing an airy and relaxed rhythm within the space.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The library is an essential space for sparking children's curiosity and enriching their imagination. Here, children absorb knowledge through reading, embarking on an infinite journey of thought and discovery. As times evolve, modern school libraries are no longer just repositories for books; they have transformed into dynamic spaces for creativity and diverse learning experiences.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Bookend A - Ripple Inspired by the spatial concept of "ripple," this bookend is made of water droplet-shaped, translucent acrylic engraved with two types of concentric ripples. When two bookends overlap, they create a complete ripple effect, symbolizing the spread of knowledge. Bookend B - Dragon Ball The "Dragon Ball" bookend represents the imagery of a "dragon" and also symbolizes Longshan Elementary School. The combination of the dragon ball with the cloud symbolizes how reading can elevate and inspire individuals, just like riding the "Magic Cloud" to soar through the skies.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in March 2024 in Taipei City and completed in September 2024

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The space is constructed with pre-fabricated shelf at the factory and finished with on-site carpentry.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
1.Work Area: The curved counter is positioned directly opposite the main entrance and located centrally within the overall space. This setup allows the librarian to oversee all areas of the library effectively, ensuring smooth management and flexibility. Stage Area: The library’s corner is transformed into a stage area by using long curved bookshelves along with a projector and screen. This arrangement not only makes the library more versatile but also serves as a space for teaching and events, enhancing its role as a dynamic learning environment. Information Area: Tablets are provided for students to access library catalogs. These devices also serve as supplementary teaching tools during class, integrating technology into the learning process.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Throughout their learning and growth, children go through a continuous cycle of listening, reading, absorbing, and speaking. Knowledge flows like droplets of water falling into the lake of their minds, creating ripples that spread outward. When these ripples meet, they generate new energy, ultimately converging into a powerful force that can influence themselves and the world around them.

CHALLENGE:
We envision the Ripple of Knowledge not only as a space for focused reading but also as a hub for sparking children's curiosity, inspiring creativity, and broadening their horizons. Here, every child can experience the power of knowledge, set ripples in motion, and carry this energy into the wider world.
