DESIGN NAME: H2gO
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Refillable Tablet Packaging
INSPIRATION: The inspiration for H2GO stemmed from the limitations of traditional mouthwash and existing portable alternatives. While liquid mouthwash often contributes to plastic waste and lacks portability, current mouthwash tablets and sprays focus more on freshening breath than cleaning. Observing the need for a truly portable, eco-friendly solution, I drew inspiration from reusable stainless steel bottles and collapsible camping gear to create a refillable, dual-function design.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: H2GO is a refillable mouthwash tablet packaging solution that combines portability, sustainability, and user engagement. Made from durable stainless steel, it reduces single-use waste while offering a reusable, eco-friendly design. The sleek cylindrical structure features a dual-slot system for controlled dispensing and easy refilling, with an integrated collapsible cup for added convenience. The press-to-open clasp adds a playful touch, making H2GO both functional and fun for modern users.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Press the button to unlock the slide, which can then be slid open to reveal two slots: a small slot for dispensing one tablet at a time and a larger slot for easy refilling. As the slide is pushed, it automatically locks into the small-slot position for controlled dispensing. To fully open the lid for refilling, the button must be pressed again. The collapsible silicone cup expands effortlessly and folds neatly back into the packaging, ensuring both convenience and portability for on-the-go users.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The H2GO packaging is crafted from stainless steel using precision metal stamping and CNC machining for a sleek and durable finish. Different color variations are achieved through an electroplating process. The collapsible cup is made of silicone for flexibility and durability, ensuring easy use and storage. The dual-slot mechanism and internal press-to-open clasp were prototyped using 3D printing, allowing for iterative refinement before final production.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This research focused on developing a sustainable, portable oral care solution. The objective was to address the limitations of traditional mouthwash by combining portability, eco-friendliness, and effective cleaning. Using user surveys and market analysis, data was gathered to understand pain points such as waste, bulkiness, and inefficiency.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was balancing functionality and sustainability while maintaining a compact and user-friendly design. Developing the collapsible silicone cup required precise material testing to ensure durability and ease of use. Additionally, integrating the dual-slot mechanism into the stainless steel body without compromising its sleek aesthetic was technically demanding. Overcoming these obstacles required iterative prototyping and close collaboration with material and production experts.
