| DESIGN NAME: Cacao Odyssey PRIMARY FUNCTION: Packaging Box INSPIRATION: Each theme reflects its unique cultural background and flavor profile. The Origin theme connects the primal flavor of Classic Dark Chocolate to the ancient mystique of South American Aztec civilization. The Spread theme harmonizes refined European artistry with the rich, complex flavor of Sea Salt Dark Chocolate. The Globalization theme uses bold color contrasts to reflect the fruity vibrancy of Berry Dark Chocolate. The Sustainability theme features green to complement the cool mint flavor. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The packaging for this chocolate series focuses on the concept of Cacao Odyssey, reflecting the richness and evolution of the cacao culture through four themes: Origin (Classic Dark Chocolate), Spread (Sea Salt Dark Chocolate), Globalization (Berry Dark Chocolate), and Sustainability (Mint Dark Chocolate). By employing a narrative approach and integrating cultural elements from various regions and eras, it visually presents the journey of cacao, offering consumers a unique cultural experience. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The packaging features a vertical box design, with chocolate bars standing upright inside. This form not only enhances accessibility but also creates an elegant, effective display. Each box is crafted to be compact and exquisite, making it perfect as both decoration and a thoughtful gift. This design adds value to the product and enhances the consumer experience, encouraging interaction and engagement. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This design and development of this project started at Shenzhen Setinya Packaging Co., Ltd. in June 2024. It was introduced to the Chinese market in November 2024. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Made from eco-friendly recycled paper, including recycled ultra white paper (176g for the outer packaging and 352g for the inner packaging) and 1200g recycled paperboard, this design exemplifies a circular approach to resource use, helping minimize environmental impact. Even the inks and coatings used are non toxic and harmless, ensuring both safety and environmental friendliness throughout the entire lifecycle. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: product dimensions, 100 mm x 100 mm x 148mm TAGS: Chocolate packaging, Cacao culture, Four themed boxes, Narrative design, Recycled paper RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The packaging design centers on cacao beans as its core motifs, and seamlessly integrates distinctive cultural elements from different eras and regions. For instance, the Origin theme features Aztec hieroglyphs and botanical motifs like cacao trees, while the Spread theme reflects the classic elegance of European mosaics. These designs create a compelling visual narrative, guiding consumers through a journey through time to explore the rich evolution of cacao culture. CHALLENGE: A key challenge was integrating rich cultural connotations to the packaging without compromising its aesthetic appeal and practicality, aiming to create a deeper connection and interaction between the product and consumers. With four distinct themes, the packaging enhances its cultural depth by visually communicating cacao culture. Moreover, the vertical box design, both compact and exquisite, not only enhances how the product is displayed but also boosts user interaction.
