DESIGN NAME: Japanese Ambience
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House
INSPIRATION: The large amounts of wood elements create a space of gentle and slow pace. Clear light enters through wooden grate and casts shadows of different shades, bringing a mellow Japanese ambience. The smears and the natural wood foundation embody a serene and calm spatial atmosphere. The unrefined, raw textures ooze a sense of stability and poise. The clearly defined layout boasts ample walking space. Light and shadows play a crucial role in shaping pathways, creating a harmonious way of living.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The elegant Japanese style of the home will make you feel that you are far from the fast-paced life of the neon city. The grill designs, wood tones, paints, and glows of light bring a rustic atmosphere to the abode. The simple design lends the whole space a pervading sense of stability and tranquility. The open floor plan allows natural light to flow through the space. Paints in gray shades embrace stripped-down simplicity, echoing the homeowner's calm and composed attitude.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The entryway is defined by a dust room with deep gray stone-patterned flooring, featuring a recessed curved wall that forms a focal point. An uncluttered storage space creates a sense of relaxation and balance within the space. The visual simplicity has a soothing effect. The wood flooring leads the way to the living room. The TV wall painted with faux fair-faced concrete finishes, with a gentle curve flowing into the cabinet on one side, blurring boundaries between surfaces and creating a seamless visual flow.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in September 2024 in Zhongli District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The deep black kitchen island bar establishes a sense of stability, balancing the light wood hues and white tones to create a harmonious blend of strength and softness. LED light strips on the ceiling add a gentle glow to the simple, minimalist space, subtly enhancing it with a touch of warmth and humanistic atmosphere.
CHALLENGE: The slightly elevated flooring defines a Tatami room, with tatami mats in shades of grass green and beige laid out next to each other. The translucent shoji door inserts serve as room dividers, lending an open feel to interior spaces while providing privacy when needed. Looking from the living room, the pigment display shelves and thin panels within the Tatami room are arranged in a staggered layout, establishing a clean yet layered visual order and creating a sense of depth.
