PRIMARY FUNCTION: App Design
INSPIRATION: Inspired by the integration of sharing economy principles with smart transportation, Igo combines the strengths of Uber carpooling model with public transit systems to create a low cost high coverage smart shuttle service. The theme of Igo is Equal Mobility Sharing the Future focusing on breaking down traditional transportation barriers to offer affordable reliable efficient and convenient shared shuttle services for low income communities thereby improving urban mobility equity.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Igo is a smart shared shuttle system conceived in response to the transportation equity challenges faced by low income communities in Los Angeles. It aims to provide an economical, efficient, and safe travel solution for residents of these areas. By utilizing intelligent algorithms to match passengers with similar destinations, optimizing passenger load factors, and addressing the First and Last Mile problem, Igo also enhances nighttime commuting safety through built in security measures.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The User Interface design of Igo is clean and intuitive, using green as the primary colour with black and white accents to emphasize sustainability and convey professionalism. Modular layouts and optimized visual flow enable users to easily access core functions like booking, route inquiries, and safety alerts, minimizing the learning curve. Additionally, intelligent interactions such as simple onboarding, smart icons, and route visualization maps ensure a smooth and convenient user experience.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Designed and developed from January to April 2023.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Departing from conventional fixed route shuttle models, Igo employs advanced intelligent algorithms to match passengers travelling to nearby destinations, optimizing vehicle occupancy rates. To further enhance social inclusivity and economic mobility, Igo innovatively integrates job recommendations along routes, helping commuters discover employment opportunities. It also features voice controlled emergency alarms, one click 911 dialling, and trip sharing to boost nighttime commuting safety.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Igo is a digital mobility solution available on Apple operating system and Android platforms. It features intelligent route matching, Global Positioning System based navigation, real time data processing, and cloud integrated safety systems. The app supports voice activated emergency alerts and job discovery tools. It operates on a scalable cloud infrastructure ensuring efficient data synchronization and secure user authentication across devices.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Igo research focused on urban transportation equity for low income communities in Los Angeles, aiming to identify commuting challenges and improve mobility solutions. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, researchers conducted 50 surveys and 10 interviews. The findings highlighted long commutes, high costs, and safety concerns. These insights guided the development of optimized routes, real time tracking, and job integration, creating a more accessible, efficient, and opportunity driven transit system.
CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was making Igo accessible to low income groups with limited access to technology. Social barriers like digital literacy and economic constraints made usability a key focus. Through research, Igo was designed with a simple intuitive interface and an optimized onboarding process. External challenges included adapting to existing transit laws and integrating real time data. Overcoming these obstacles ensured a seamless affordable and inclusive mobility solution.
