DESIGN NAME: Home and Fashion Instyle
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Exhibition Space
INSPIRATION: Home Instyle offered buyers a diverse selection of lifestyle products filled with inspiration and enjoyment. It introduced a cultural and creative corner featuring three themes: craftsman mixology, surrealism and sustenance, showcasing various cultural influences and creative expressions.
In Fashion Instyle, it created a cozy atmosphere to highlight the tactile qualities of fabrics. By incorporating comforting materials, it fostered an emotional connection and blended aesthetics with comfort, inspiring buyers to envision how these elements could enhance their fashion offerings. This approach celebrated creativity and deepened appreciation for lifestyle and fashion products, making the event memorable for all.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Home Instyle and Fashion Instyle were a four-day trade fairs organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, showcasing the latest global trends in home and fashion lifestyle products. The event attracted over 24,000 buyers from 100 countries and regions. This strong participation from global buyers highlighted Hong Kong's reputation as Asia's creative hub for the region.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Home InStyle greeted visitors with an inviting feature wall at the main entrance, creating a warm atmosphere for international buyers and exhibitors. Upon entering the Hall of Elegance, guests encountered a dynamic greenhouse setup that celebrated community and human connections, showcasing vibrant colors and design traditions. On the third floor, the Cultural and Creative Corner featured three thematic zones: Craftsman Mixology, Surrealism, and Sustenance, highlighting designer brands and innovative lifestyle products. A multifunctional stage for 200 people was seamlessly integrated, hosting workshops and forums on emerging trends.
In Fashion InStyle, we combined finely crafted fabrics and fluted wall treatments with an optical illusion architectural element, reflecting the artistry of the fashion industry. The semi-open Mini Parade stage served as a central hub, providing a versatile space for fashion shows, forums, and networking opportunities, enhancing the overall experience for attendees.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: With six months preparation, the Home InStyle and Fashion InStyle events were held from April 20 to 23, 2024, at the Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in Wan Chai. The design transformed the venue into a premier lifestyle event, with every detail meticulously curated to enhance the experience for exhibitors and buyers. This strategic approach not only showcased the essence of lifestyle brands but also fostered meaningful connections within the industry, making the event a highlight in Hong Kong’s vibrant design landscape.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To create an engaging atmosphere for Home Instyle and Fashion Instyle, curated cohesive zones were created to reflect the themes of craftsman mixology, surrealism, and sustenance. Close collaboration with the sales team on product selections was crucial to highlight materials, colors, and lighting that enhanced the overall aesthetic. In the craftsman mixology zone, natural woods and earthy tones were used, while the surrealism area featured large mirror houses against a vibrant LED wall. For sustenance, it emphasized eco-conscious materials along with a wellness garden concept for an instagrammable moment.
This seamless layout extended into Fashion Instyle, starting at the hall entrance and leading to the mini parade stage. Striking visuals and thoughtful design transformed the space into a vibrant hub that captivated visitors. By harmonizing themes and aesthetics, it created an immersive experience with a multifunction LED screen and special lighting at the mini parade stage, catering to fashion shows while fostering connection and inspiration among attendees. This approach ensured both events left a lasting impression on everyone involved.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The Cultural & Creative Corner was 30 m in width, 29 m in depth, and reached a height of 6 m, featuring hanging LED signage positioned 5 m above ground for optimal visibility. Each of the three thematic zones: Craftsman Mixology, Surrealism, and Sustenance, spanned approximately 250 sqm, showcasing lifestyle concepts using recycled materials. We incorporated plywood and 100% recycled polyply plastic in our furniture design, complemented by fresh floral displays to enhance the wellness-oriented atmosphere.
At the Fashion InStyle entrance, measuring 32 m wide, 18 m deep, and 3 m high, we created an engaging visual experience. Soft materials like wool and tulle adorned the decor walls, offering a comforting contrast to the sharp angles of the staircase and archway. This design produced an optical illusion, guiding guests toward the trade hall and Mini Parade stage. The 800 sqm Mini Parade stage accommodated 100 guests and featured an 8 m wide by 4.5 m high LED screen, along with professional runway lighting to elevate the ambiance of the shows. Overall, the space was designed to be visually stimulating yet comfortable, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design journey began with a thorough analysis of trend forecasts in the houseware and fashion industries, identifying key themes and exhibitor preferences. To connect these insights to our theme, a series of abstract interior settings are designed under the Cultural and Creative concept for the welcome installation and entrance treatment.
This approach involved careful selection of colors, textures, and lighting inspired by trend reports and insights from the organizer's partner, Pantone, ensuring a cohesive, contemporary aesthetic. The chosen palette reflected current design trends while creating an inviting atmosphere for visitors. By establishing a visual dialogue between the initial installations and the distinct trend display area, the organizer enhanced the overall ambiance and encouraged engagement with the showcased products throughout the space.
CHALLENGE: With only three days for on-site installation, the organizer faced the challenge of developing a design concept that reflected industry trends and effectively engaged visitors. Given the close proximity of the three designated theme areas, it was crucial to establish a common visual thread that seamlessly connected them while integrating with the multifunctional stage.
To tackle this, the organizer collaborated closely with the sales and special events teams to refine the hall layout, identify display requirements, and plan event arrangements. By sharing insights from trend forecasts with stakeholders, they incorporated key design elements aligned with relevant aesthetics. This approach allowed them to create a cohesive concept that unified the three thematic spaces while meeting functional needs. Thoughtful details enhanced the visitor experience, stimulating interest and fostering a dynamic atmosphere that encouraged exploration and engagement throughout the event.
