DESIGN NAME: Brocade Grace
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: The designer aimed to create a versatile space that balances privacy and openness. A deeper entryway enhances intimacy upon entering. Tailored to the owner's expertise, high standards were set for functionality, including the installation of an ERV and dehumidifier for optimal living conditions. The overall style blends modern and traditional elements, reflecting the preferences of the three-person family. Each area subtly reveals the residents' personalities, with thoughtful details becoming key features that bring the design to life.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The designer created a seamless transition from the outside to the home with a deep, spacious entryway offering ample storage. This thoughtful design enhances functionality and provides a sense of safety and comfort upon entering. The diagonally cut kitchen island acts as the central hub, supporting both social activities and daily use. Its angled design ensures smooth flow throughout the space. The designer blended the family's preferences, combining the father's love for refined luxury with the mother's and son's fondness for American casual style, creating a harmonious atmosphere.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The host is particularly pleased with the living room design, enjoying its atmosphere for tea drinking and appreciating the functional equipment. The hostess is satisfied with the wardrobe's storage, which meets her needs for organizing jewelry and personal items. Both love the suspended TV in the master bedroom, offering the best viewing angle. Their son enjoys the baseball rack design, feeling it truly reflects his personality and interests. The project successfully blends functionality and individual expression, creating a harmonious home that caters to each family member's needs.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in December 2020 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design features primary materials such as Italian slab tiles, natural stone, metal fixtures, woodwork baking paint, Italian artistic paint, and mirrors. Black, white, and beige serve as the base, with accents of blue and pink. Blue reflects the host's and son's love for nature and sports, while pink- unexpectedly favored by the male owner- appears in elements like the baseball rack and home office decor. The hostess and son share a preference for white. These colors merge seamlessly, creating a harmonious and layered design that reflects the residents' tastes.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The space is a 152-square-meter new apartment with four rooms, a living room, a dining room, and two bathrooms.
Privacy is emphasized through the design of the entrance. The entryway is long and deep, requiring a transition period before leading into the main areas, which enhances the sense of ceremony when returning home. The circulation is achieved through the use of a round table and diagonally cut kitchen island, avoiding sharp corners and ensuring smooth movement throughout the space.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The 'Brocade Grace' project draws inspiration from the idea of each space being an individual thread that weaves together to form a beautiful home. The design uses materials and colors to reflect the emotional connections of the family, harmonizing their diverse color preferences like an intricate tapestry. Attention to detail and practicality were key, with a discreet entryway design and a fluid layout of the island and round table for smooth circulation. Sustainable, health-conscious materials like Italian artistic paint and durable tiles ensure both safety and longevity.
CHALLENGE: The greatest challenge was the junction of different materials and the design of hidden doors. Tiles and marble vary in thickness and weight, requiring precise adjustments and stainless steel edge trims for a refined finish. The hidden door and TV wall, made with slab tiles, posed weight-bearing concerns. To keep them flush and aligned, the designer meticulously adjusted the door hardware and supporting structures, preventing tilting from uneven weight distribution. These careful refinements ensured both aesthetic cohesion and structural integrity.
