PRIMARY FUNCTION: Elderly Chair
INSPIRATION: The physical strength of the elderly is declining, leading to many inconveniences in their daily lives. However, there are very few chairs designed for their use. Our design inspiration comes from addressing the pain points in the home lives of the elderly. We hope to design a chair that is suitable for the elderly, helping to improve their quality of life and enjoyment.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The development of the ElderEase Chair aims to bring a more comfortable experience to the elderly. Through innovative design, it provides assistance when seniors sit down and stand up. Unlike traditional chairs, it offers exceptional comfort and care tailored to the elderly, fully considering their pursuit of respect, personalization, and quality of life.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Our goal is to design products that care for the elderly without making them feel singled out. Using it feels no different from using a regular leisure chair. When standing up, pressing down on the armrests activates a special structural design that raises the seat, providing lift to the hips and helping the elderly to stand up. The entire design seamlessly integrates the action of standing, making the product's use simple.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Shenzhen in March 2024 and was completed in Shenzhen in September 2024.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The ElderEase Chair features an integrated metal steel frame structure, eco-friendly multi-layer boards, and a comfortable soft cushion design. Its innovative structural design ensures smoother use, providing natural assistance when sitting down and standing up. High-quality damping components offer an excellent user experience.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Through extensive research on the elderly population, we found that they commonly face mobility issues and weakened strength due to aging. By incorporating innovative structural designs, the chair can assist elderly users in sitting down and standing up, supporting their natural postures and movements, thereby reducing joint and muscle strain. Additionally, the seat height and armrest positions are adjustable to accommodate the varying needs of different elderly users.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge of the research lies in understanding and meeting the needs of the elderly population, and reflecting genuine care and respect for them through design. It is important that the chair conforms to ergonomic principles suitable for the elderly, ensuring safety, ease of use, and assistance with sitting down and standing up. Additionally, the materials should be comfortable and easy to maintain. At the same time, the stylish appearance should blend well with the home environment.
