| DESIGN NAME: Conqueror PRIMARY FUNCTION: Inflatable Camping Furniture INSPIRATION: When camping outdoors, carrying heavy camping furniture frequently turns into a major challenge for campers. They not only need to take into account the storage space but also it affects the overall ease of the journey. Simultaneously, comfort is also a significant concern for campers, who desire to enjoy a comfortable and lightweight camping experience in nature. In response to these challenges of outdoor camping trips, we explore how to design lighter and more diversified camping furniture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Conqueror is an innovative project which intends to redefine the camping furniture experience. By introducing modular design and inflation technology, users can freely combine furniture modules to create three distinct types of furniture: chairs, tables, and airbeds, fulfilling various needs in different scenarios. This project aims to offer outdoor enthusiasts a flexible, comfortable, and convenient camping furniture solution . OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When we were camping outdoors, the Conqueror could be inflated in the field with an automatic inflatable mouth. When unfolded, it turns into an air mattress that can be placed in any space. When folded, it can become a table or chair. Meanwhile, it uses a glow-in-the-dark coating pattern and clasp, along with a special logo to guide the user for intuitive installation. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Shenzhen in March 2024 and completed in Shenzhen in June 2024. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We employ recycled PVC materials and luminescent coating, which absorb solar energy and display special patterns or logos in dim light. This design not only endows outdoor camping products with a unique visual effect but also enhances visibility at night or in dim environments, improving the installation accuracy for users. Moreover, it provides crucial guidance and identification at critical moments, raising the efficiency of emergency search and rescue. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Table size: Width 820 mm x depth 720 mm x height 300 mm Chair dimensions: Width 750 mm x depth 735 mm x height 300 mm Air cushion size: Width 720 mm x depth 2000 mm x height 100 mm TAGS: Camping furniture, Modular design, Lnflatable, Three forms RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After a survey of 500 outdoor campers, it was revealed that 83% of the campers are accustomed to carrying camping furniture, thereby highlighting the potential of inflatable camping furniture in the market. Compared to traditional furniture, inflatable furniture occupies less space during storage. In light of this phenomenon, we have meticulously designed multi-functional, inflatable and portable furniture with the aim of solving the storage space problem, reducing the carrying burden, and achieving a diversity of forms through a single product unit to meet the diverse needs of campers. CHALLENGE: During the implementation and research process, one of the most significant challenges we encountered was guaranteeing the feasibility of the modular folding structure of Conqueror. Various folding approaches imposed certain requirements on materials and structures. Simultaneously, we concentrated on how to achieve effortless installation while ensuring the comfort of inflation. In the course of the discussion, we have generated numerous creative concepts, which are both interesting and valuable.
