DESIGN NAME: Horus
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Motor Yacht
INSPIRATION: The yacht's concept is heavily influenced by Horus's eye and the four basic elements; earth, water, air, and fire. These elements, fundamental in both Western and some Eastern philosophies, symbolize balance across physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual realms. While cultural symbols for these elements vary, the core idea is consistent. The yacht's interior and exterior designs integrate these elements, using organic forms to emphasize nature.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The yacht owner's unique experience is ensured with a two-deck suite and private terrace. Four cabins, each bearing signs of the four basic elements, aim to offer guests a special experience. Prioritizing guest comfort, the yacht includes a swimming pool, jacuzzi, spa, hammam, gym, and lounge areas. An eco-friendly design is achieved with a diesel hybrid propulsion system. Azipod propulsion system has been chosen, enhancing the yacht's maneuverability.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Electricity stored in the batteries provides an eco-friendly and quiet cruising experience in zero-emission mode (at low cruising speed). Diesel generators produce the necessary electricity. The propulsion system, powered by two azipods, enhances maneuverability and ensures fuel efficiency. Fin stabilizers have been used to elevate cruising comfort to the highest level.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project design started in Istanbul in January 2024 and compilated in May 2024.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Organic forms are the foundation of the design. Fluid lines give the yacht a dynamic appearance. Large windows increase the interior spaciousness. The interior features wide spaces to prioritize guest comfort. The yacht owner's private areas include a cabin with a wide view on the upper deck, an office, and a terrace on the main deck. The hull and superstructure will be made of aluminum, ensuring the yacht's lightness. Thanks to the innovative and eco-friendly diesel-electric propulsion system, cruising is done with low emissions.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The main research focus of the project has been to design an environmentally friendly and comfortable yacht. Innovative technologies were researched, and among systems currently feasible, the most suitable one was chosen for the project. The hull form design involved studying semi-displacement yacht forms, with efforts made to integrate a bulb for the semi-displacement form.
CHALLENGE: The main challenge of the project was to design a diesel-electric propulsion yacht under 500 gross tons and 50 meters long. An innovative general layout plan was developed to ensure sufficient space for technical areas while maximizing guest comfort. The coherence between exterior and interior designs reflecting the defined concept played a significant role in the project's design.
