| DESIGN NAME: Twiny PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Sofa INSPIRATION: Twiny multifunctional sofa was inspired by the increasing need for adaptable furniture in small living spaces, particularly for families with children. Observing how limited space can restrict children's ability to explore and engage in creative play, I aimed to design a piece that not only maximizes space but also encourages independence and imagination. My motivation stemmed from the desire to create a functional, safe, and easy to maintain solution that meets the needs of modern families. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Twiny redefines space-saving furniture for families and institutions like preschools and daycare centers. Its unique design blends sustainability, versatility, and safety, making it essential for child-friendly environments. While it first appears as a playful sofa, it ingeniously conceals an adjustable table with storage, revealed by separating the sofa units. This modular approach supports activities such as playing, studying, relaxing, with eco-friendly materials, child-focused functionality OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Twiny multifunctional furniture is designed for easy interaction and transformation, making it perfect for children. To reveal the hidden table, simply separate the two sofa units. By turning the top part of the table, children can adjust its height and access the storage compartment. The modular pieces can be reconfigured into different layouts to suit various activities, fostering creativity and independence. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Twiny sofa is crafted using eco-conscious materials to ensure sustainability and comfort. The upholstery is made from 100% recycled polyester, providing a soft, durable surface that emphasizes environmental responsibility. The adjustable table is constructed from a sustainable composite, combining reclaimed wood chips and recycled plastic, which highlights its eco-friendly design. Using a mixed-methods approach, data was collected through interviews and home observations. The findings underscored the need for adaptable, safe, and easy to maintain furniture with integrated storage. Insights emphasized the value of multifunctional furniture in fostering creativity and independence. This research culminated in the creation of Twiny furniture, a versatile, modular design that maintains organized and clutter-free spaces. CHALLENGE: The creative challenge involved integrating versatile features, such as hidden table and storage, without compromising user experience and aesthetics. Balancing functionality with a playful design for children was essential, as well as ensuring safety and ease of use.
