DESIGN NAME: Bewell Clinic
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Urology Health Facility
INSPIRATION: The inspiration came from a simple question: why must a urology clinic feel hidden or clinical? Observing how many patients hesitated before entering such spaces, the designer sought to change that experience. Drawing from a background in fashion performance, the vision was to turn a routine visit into something seamless and dignified. By blending art with function, the clinic becomes an open, gallery styled space where privacy feels natural, and discomfort fades into quiet elegance.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This clinic transforms the conventional urology space into a gallery inspired environment, replacing clinical sterility with curated aesthetics. The design shifts perceptions by integrating art, soft lighting, and refined materials, ensuring patients feel at ease rather than embarrassed. Sculptural furnishings and custom medical elements blend seamlessly into the space, creating an immersive experience where privacy, comfort, and design converge to redefine the patient journey.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Upon entering, patients are embraced by a warm, muted palette where soft lighting dissolves the harsh sterility of traditional clinics. Earthy tones and deep greens, reminiscent of nature and healing, create a sense of calm. The waiting area is arranged to reduce direct eye contact, easing discomfort. Moving through semi-transparent partitions, patients step into private rooms where light diffuses gently against tinted mirrors, expanding the space while preserving a sense of quiet solitude.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project took eight months from design discussions to completion. Planning began in early September 2023, construction was completed in May 2024, and the clinic officially opened in June.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This design balances functionality and aesthetics through precise detailing. Tinted glass and semi-transparent partitions ensure privacy while maintaining openness. A textured wooden sliding door conceals the medical record cabinet, blending storage into the space. Soft, indirect lighting enhances warmth, while deep green curtains provide privacy and calm. Durable, fire-resistant finishes ensure safety without compromising the refined aesthetic.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Located in the city center near a main road, the clinic spans two floors with a carefully planned layout. The first floor features two waiting areas, a reception and billing counter, and a concealed storage system behind the desk. It also includes two consultation rooms, a private discussion area, and a staff lounge. The second floor houses three treatment rooms and an additional rest area, ensuring a seamless flow between functions.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: This research explored color psychology and lighting to reduce anxiety in medical spaces. Through case studies, surveys, and expert interviews, data showed that harsh white light heightens stress, while soft, diffused lighting promotes calm. Earthy tones and deep greens evoke stability and healing. These findings shaped a design that transforms urology clinics into spaces of comfort and dignity, redefining patient experiences and setting a new standard for healthcare interiors.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was transforming a highly stigmatized medical space into one that feels inviting yet private. Patients needed discretion, but the space had to remain open and calming. Strict fire safety codes limited material choices, leading to the use of non-combustible panels and tinted glass for both function and aesthetics. Lighting had to be soft yet compliant with medical standards, requiring custom indirect solutions. Overcoming these, the clinic now merges design with patient well-being.
