| DESIGN NAME: Dino PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bowl INSPIRATION: Our design begins with thinking about the relationship between the bowl and cats, and how owners use it. We have discussed specifically on aspects such as function, visual expression and materials. The Dino Bowl is primarily made of ceramics. Its basic shape is cylindrical, bent in the middle to create the slanted surface of the feeding bowl, giving it the appearance of a dinosaur. The stir stick on the back serves as the dinosaur's spine, integrating functionality and aesthetics of the product. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Decopark Dino Bowl consists of a one-piece, high-temperature fired ceramic bowl and a stir stick. The holistic design is inspired by dinosaur neck shape, like the stir stick is designed as the dinosaur's spine, making the visual image more memorable. The tilt angle of the bowl allows cats to eat more comfortably. The attached stir stick is designed to assist with mixing and it will always return to the correct orientation no matter which angle it is inserted at. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When users feed their cats, the stir stick at the back of the bowl helps to mix the cat's food, particularly canned food. Afterward, the stir stick can be easily wiped clean and placed back into the insertion hole at the rear of the bowl for convenient storage. It is also worth noting that the slanted rim design of the cat bowl ensures a more comfortable eating posture for cats. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2023 in Hangzhou, and was exhibited in The ONE Pet Show in April 2024. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Aiming to make a cute and fun bowl, the lines are well designed to ensure the holistic shape is suitable for the ceramic firing process and make the stir stick and the bowl maintain harmony and unity in their forms. To reduce the likelihood of deformation of the bowl’s slanted rim during firing, we made the rim structure double layer. Simultaneously, we keep adjusting the shape of the stir stick and its insertion hole at the back of the bowl to ensure a better fit between them and the bowl. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Overall dimensions: Length 168mm x Width 140mm x Height 164mm Bowl dimensions: Diameter 140mm x Height 164mm (Capacity 115ml) Weight: 1kg Material: Ceramic / PP TAGS: visual expression, dinosaur shape, back spine mixing stick, ceramic bowl RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research shows that most users thought pet ceramic bowl product on the market are homogeneous, failing to consider the actual needs of users and cats. Therefore, our design focus on practicality and ease of use. We noticed that when feeding canned cat food, a stir stick is needed to mix it, yet there are few bowl products equipped with a stir stick. Additionally, most users indicated that they are easily attracted to product shapes. Hence, we incorporated interesting ideas into the design. CHALLENGE: The biggest creative challenge was integrating the innovation of product shape and function. We found that users need both a bowl and a stir stick when feeding their cats, but a single stir stick would be easily lost. Therefore, we were facing the challenge of combining them into one unit for convenient storage. Simultaneously, we were also wondering how to make the overall appearance interesting to attract users and provide better user experience.
