PRIMARY FUNCTION: Intelligent Tire
INSPIRATION: In 2030, autonomous vehicles will enter the mass market. Future user experiences are projected to rely on a large number of new technologies and interconnected services. Consequently, the design of future tires must meet the requirements of autonomous driving technology. Also by 2030, Millennials and Generation Z will account for an estimated 69% of the working population, and sustainability and work/life balance are major concerns for them.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: N Vision is a predictive, adaptive and renewable intelligent tire which minimizes autonomous vehicles' travel costs per mile. Designed with optimal pre-stress to adapt to varying road conditions and loads, N Vision features an eco-friendly design and makes maximal use of eco-materials, reducing tire scrapping and providing users with affordable, worry-free and sustainable travel.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: N Vision uses its smart system to predict driving environments and vehicle conditions and adjusts the spokes to provide an optimal prestress of tread, maximizing ride comfort and load-carrying. N Vision also features recyclable parts that can be replaced during vehicle maintenance to optimize its working condition, thereby reducing vehicle downtime and helping mobility service providers manage their fleets efficiently and offer cost-effective prices, achieving a win-win business model.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2021 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: N Vision's smart system uses data from multiple sensors to predict the real-time condition of road, driving speed, vehicle load and tire. It then adapts to road conditions and loads by adjusting the stretch and bending of its spokes to provide optimal pre-compression or pre-tension to the tread area. N Vision is made of bio-based materials created from rice husks and sunflower seeds, and recycled materials created from discarded tires, PET bottles and fishing nets, supporting a circular economy.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The evolution of automation technology is having a profound impact on tire usage. To assist us as we explored tire innovation and design, our design team observed mobility and vehicle industry trends and gathered public transportation usage feedback. Incorporating the support method of cable-stayed bridges, we created a blueprint for the development of tire technology and sustainable mobility with the N Vision concept.
CHALLENGE: The trend toward autonomous vehicles and the development of V2X technology require components with lower maintenance costs and longer service intervals, which affects tire design. To address this challenge, our design team proposes a variable pre-stressed airless tire inspired by cable-stayed bridges. Using our real-time prediction technology, the tire integrates with vehicle monitoring systems, providing a solution that enhances road safety and reduces maintenance and mobility costs.
