DESIGN NAME: Selena
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Chair
INSPIRATION: In-depth CNC machining techniques were essential to define the shape of the chair, this was exploited to the maximum.
The search for fluid and smooth surfaces, characteristics that make the piece so interesting, and that hide the formal complexity, with different visual elements.
Also the natural straw, starting at the back, moving towards the seat, generates a continuous element of visual lightness and the impression that the chair does not have many stops, making the product even more fluid.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Selena was designed with the aim of having a light and minimalist look. It represents a little of what we tried to convey with these innovative surfaces and transitions, resulting in the smooth shapes of a resistant and durable chair. The continuity of the straw produces a minimalist effect, and the transparency of this material generates lightness in a monolithic volume. The chair is a tactile object, to understand its complexity it is necessary to feel each transition, fit and surface.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The natural straw in the seat initially creates hesitation, and the feeling when sitting is one of surprise, comfort and security.
Designed with an organic shape and fluid lines, at the same time complex and intriguing, it becomes a product that also appeals to the sense of touch, going beyond ergonomics and visuals, interacting with human curiosity.
Visually light in a product with materials as noble and known for their robustness as wood, this product conveys softness and elegance.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in Lagoa Vermelha, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil on April 2, 2023 and ended in March 2024.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: A project focused on detailed cnc programming. Added to artisanal processes that require a lot of experience and care, in the use of organic materials, such as Jequitibá wood, and natural straw.
It highlights the resistance created in the machining processes, generating precision in assembly. And its water-based finish guarantees lower environmental impact. This makes the product durable and sustainable, thinking about pieces that will be used for generations.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Width 0.560 mm
Depth 0.600 mm
Height 0.840 mm

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research into the design of the brief showed us that the natural puts us in a very positive way, in tune with our ancestry, awakening intrinsic sensations that welcome us, influencing human well-being, which is why the final objective of the project was to deliver a contemporary product , made with natural materials and organic shapes.
There was also a great effort in researching technology and tools that could execute according to the project.
CHALLENGE: Search for fluid surfaces, without encounters, without visible obstacles, the process of fixing the natural straw, to form the smooth piece, search for exclusive tools and solutions with partners, was a great and time-consuming challenge, but delivered an exceptional result. Furthermore, it increased our creative repertoire.
The challenge was to make an aesthetically minimalist chair, which at the same time was structurally robust, and with this appearance was ergonomically attractive.
