| DESIGN NAME: Symphony PRIMARY FUNCTION: Orchestra Music Hall INSPIRATION: We were inspired by ancient Lithuanian ethnic motifs and the old runic alphabet. We decided to integrate ethnic elements into the modern new concert hall to make the space more mystical. You can find these motifs on the decorated walls. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Main objective was to achieve an entirely new acoustic standard, tailored specifically for symphony orchestra performances. We adopted a "lego constructor" philosophy, we meticulously devised several standard elements such as rhombuses, triangles, and both smooth and ribbed planes. Subsequently, we methodically assembled the interior using these components, adjusting their placement—adding or subtracting as necessary—to achieve a harmonious blend of acoustical excellence and aesthetic appeal. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The primary focus of the symphony orchestra hall is the listener. Our main objective was to achieve an entirely new acoustic standard (the object is reconstruction), tailored specifically for symphony orchestra performances of the highest caliber. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in September 2019. Reconstruction completion March 2023. The renovated building is located in Vilnius, Lithuania. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: For the wall decor, we used plasterboards covered with oak veneer, with LED strips in between. Oak parquet flooring. Ceilings painted plasterboard. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This is not a new hall. It is a reconstructed 1000m2 space with a complex geometric shape. NAME: MAMA Architects PROFILE: Marius Mateika is architect, who represent MAMA architects. He is the founder of this studio. MAMA architects is small but professional and creative team capable of handling large, complex projects. Their focus is: exceptional objects and complex public buildings. Moto: architecture is not a job and it is not a profession, architecture is a way of life. Marius says that they create for people, so focus is people, and how they will feel in these buildings.
