| DESIGN NAME: Irix Cine Lineup PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lenses For Cinematographers INSPIRATION: Next to knowledge and experience, the most important tool for a designer is intuition. Such an approach during the creation of the new Irix Cine lens line allowed me to propose solutions that go beyond conventional patterns. Working in a great interdisciplinary team of specialists led to the creation of a unique and unparalleled design that combines the features of video lenses with extraordinary user comfort. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Irix Cine series is based on innovative approach. The essence was to find a unique stylistic language of the IRIX brand that is an emanation of quality, functionality, and especially comfort and ergonomics. The use of a constant body diameter, and magnetically mounted accessories such as lens hoods or filters, makes the lens operation incredibly intuitive. An innovative solution is an adaptive ring, which allows maintaining the compact shape of the lens while preserving its full functionality. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Irix Cine lenses include innovative design, exceptional optical quality, and precise craftsmanship. They feature a constant body diameter, magnetically mounted accessories for convenience, and an adaptive ring for compactness. These lenses offer intuitive operation, ensuring a seamless filmmaking experience with outstanding image quality and professional performance. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2016 and we are aiming to finish it in 2025. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: All Irix Cine lenses are a >43,3mm Full Frame lens, covering Full Frame 35, Super 35, Red Dragon 6K, Arri Alexa, APS-C, MFT, Super 16, Sony Venice and other sensors. Available in the most popular industry mounts: Canon RF, Canon EF, Sony E, Nikon Z, Leica L, Fuji X, MFT and Arri PL-mount. All of the Irix Cine lenses (except Irix 11mm T4.3 lens) have a Magnetic Mount System (MMS) that is compatible with Irix Edge MMS, Vari ND filters and Irix MMS Lens Hood. The Irix Edge magnetic filters have a unique threadless design, so you can be sure that everything staus clean&clrear ready for action! The MMS filter can be stacked together allows you to not only freely combine them but also saves a lot of space when stored. The MMS Lens Hood effectively protects the lens from unwanted light that can cause ghosting and flares. All Irix has a similar weight, which makes swapping them on gimbal much easier. Additionally, focus gears help with any wireless follow focus. The weight of around 1kg works as a perfect counterweight to most mirrorless cameras, making balancing a breeze. An important aspect was extensive consultation with professionals who were later users of the lenses designed by our team. CHALLENGE: The most difficult element of the design work was to develop a concept that would allow maintaining the consistency of the entire product line, in a situation when at the beginning of the project the exact parameters of all individual products were not yet known. Maintaining the consistency of all lenses, both in terms of physical dimensions and functional features, was also a key issue.
