| DESIGN NAME: Cell PRIMARY FUNCTION: Tent INSPIRATION: While ensuring residential comfort and tent interior coziness, our tent is designed for easy assembly with minimal frames, prioritizing a simple yet aesthetically pleasing form. The tent boasts a natural and symmetrical shape, devoid of irregularities, incorporating the graceful curves inspired by leaves and stems. Tension is evenly distributed across the entire fabric, ensuring a beautiful, wrinkle-free appearance when set up. The emphasis lies in achieving a tent that not only provides habitability and comfort but also exhibits an elegant presence, harmonizing with the natural world. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This tent emphasizes functionality while maintaining an undiminished sense of beauty. Designed for camping, it ensures privacy from other campers with a unique entrance shape that conceals the interior from external view while providing a stunning view from the inside. The elegant off-white fabric stands out outdoors, creating a bright and refreshing space inside during the day. At night, the internal lighting gives the tent the appearance of a decorative light fixture. This harmonious blend of functionality and beauty makes the tent an art piece that enhances the campsite ambiance, aiming to provide campers with a comfortable and enjoyable experience. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This tent is named Cell, and it is anticipated to be set up in various camping sites. The goal is for users to meet and connect with each other through the tent, creating a community that expands much like the process of cell division and fusion. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design was crafted by sunsetclimax Inc. in Tokyo in April 2020, and after prototyping and production phases starting in 2021, it was launched for sale in September 2023. The product has been successfully sold in Japan and other Asian countries. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The tent fabric, developed exclusively for Cell01, is a 70-denier ripstop nylon. It features silicon water repellent treatment on the surface and durable urethane coating on the reverse, deviating from traditional fabrics for hydrolysis resistance and exceptional durability. The frame, crafted from A7075 super-duralumin, known for aerospace strength, uses three frames to leverage material flexibility, achieving a beautiful form. Ventilators strategically placed in the lower fabric section and near frame bifurcation points enhance stability and aesthetics without compromising beauty. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: ・Size : W3700mm×D3320mm×H1 TAGS: Tent, Outdoor, Camp, Camping, Recreation, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The tent's elegant design was realized through sculpting-like iterative prototyping, meticulously pinching and fixing fabric for graceful curves. Drawing lines directly on the tent with markers during trial setups, followed by redesign, fabric cutting, and resewing, resulted in the exquisite final product. Skilled artisans, using advanced techniques, ensured a wrinkle-free appearance in the sewing process. Each tent undergoes individual trial setups and a thorough quality check before shipment in the manufacturing facility. Proudly Made in Japan, craftsmen communicate closely with artisans, incorporating diverse feedback during manufacturing, leading to a superior, perfected product. CHALLENGE: Amid the global impact of COVID-19, outdoor recreation has become crucial for health and happiness. Nature activities effectively ease pandemic-induced stress, and outdoor pursuits like camping strengthen the immune system. Beyond physical benefits, outdoor recreation nurtures social connections, offering a refreshing escape from daily challenges. This positively influences work and academic performance by activating concentration and stimulating creativity. Furthermore, outdoor activities foster environmental awareness and promote sustainable living.
