| DESIGN NAME: Modern National Costume PRIMARY FUNCTION: Clothing INSPIRATION: The inspiration for the creation of the clothing collection was the national color and rich history of Belarus. A modern look at cultural values through contemporary costume design, photography and modeling. The costume was inspired by the national holiday - Kolyada. Kolyady is an ancient ritual holiday symbolizing the beginning of a new year. Original carol traditions have been preserved in different regions of Belarus and are the intangible heritage of the country. The star is the most recognizable carol image. Its primary source is the Star of Bethlehem. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A series of designer clothing was developed taking into account the culture, history and national characteristics of the Belarus. Each set of clothes reflects a specific theme through modern clothing design. The clothing collection covers such topics as: national holidays, the uniqueness of the country's alphabet, national color and ornament, famous personalities, technology and much more.ART Photographs using costumes decorated the art zone of the National Pavilion of Belarus (Expo Dubai 2020) OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Costume consist of separate parts and can be transformed by creating new parts and elements. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Сostumes was created over the course of a year in Belarus, the city of Vitebsk. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The costumes are made from various materials, including unique folk art materials. The main costume from the collection is made of ribbons with a national pattern. By sewing ribbons together, the fabric was created from which the costume was created. Additionally, patches, fabric combinations and handmade shoes were used too. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Variable sizes TAGS: Fashion, Textile, National Design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To create a collection of costumes, enormous preparation was carried out. A search through professional literature for the history of the creation of the Belarusian folk costume. The history of important artifacts and heritage was studied. In order to more accurately show the design idea. CHALLENGE: An important task was to find the line between which modern design could show the history of the past. This is a complex interweaving of the roots of the past with the roots of the future.
