Loop Candleholder by Zeynep and Konstantinos Paradeisopoulos

DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Loop

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Candleholder

INSPIRATION:
The Loop Candleholder draws inspiration from the infinity symbol, translating its geometric form into a modern home accessory. The challenge of this project was to connect three loops with each other while creating a fourth loop in the center to house a tall candleholder. The accompanying tray serves as a surface for the candleholder's melted wax and highlights the design's geometrical twists in the corners, adding an accentuating touch to the overall aesthetic.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Loop candleholder, inspired by the concept of infinity, boasts a unique design that allows it to sit steadily on a coffee table while emitting captivating infinite loop shadows onto the surface below. The candleholder's elegant tray serves a dual purpose, not only catching any wax that drips but also functioning as a standalone decorative item for jewelry storage.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Loop candleholder can be easily transferred by holding one of the loops and positioning it on a table. It transforms the space with it's geometrical aesthetics and when lit creates various nice loop shadows on the surface it is placed on.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project took 200 hours until completion. The design was first started on a 3D application on the computer later printed to size and the prototype was well finessed so that the silicon mold could capture all the details. The silicon mold is based of 5 parts that are secured with 3D printed parts and bolts.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The design's initial prototype had been created on the computer, but the true challenge lay in transitioning a 3D digital product into physical production. Thus, the design of the mold posed as much of a challenge as the object itself.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
Candleholder dimensions are 160mm x 160mm x 90mm

TAGS:
candleholder, tall candleholder, home decor, product design, candleholder with tray, home decoration

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Most of the geometrical design challenges were solved on the computer, digitally first. The angle of how the curves transition into the fourth loop that houses the tall candle were carefully studied and tested well so that the candle would sit stably when pushed in.

CHALLENGE:
The mold of the Loop Candleholder has been quiet a challenge since there are three big loops that are the main legs and a perpendicularly placed fourth loop that houses the candle. Therefor the mold consists of five pieces that come together and it takes crafty hands to remove each copy without damaging the pieces.

Kazoo Design

PROFILE:
For more than 20 years, Zeynep and Kostas have been working with computer generated imagery to create pre-viz for architecture, ads, short films and visual effects in documentaries and movies. All these years have led up to the formation of their brand Kazoo, which is solely based around their passion to create. Kazoo design studio is a place where curiosity has no boundaries, ideas and inspiration can come any moment. Kazoo objects are designed digitally, then a prototype is printed and post-processed and molds are made in order to finally hand-cast copies. Materials that we currently use for our final products are: Ceramics, Porcelain, Polyurethane Resin and Acrylic Resin (Jesmonite). We strongly believe that our future lies in combining technology with hand-crafting and think thoroughly about the sustainability of our products. We mostly produce our products in our boutique atelier and only collaborate with boutique local makers who can provide us with the highest quality.

The recent unveiling of "Loop," an innovative candleholder that gracefully embodies the essence of the infinity symbol, has truly captivated my attention. This piece is not just a testament to creative inspiration but also to the meticulous research and technical prowess that went into its development. The seamless integration of three loops, creating a fourth to accommodate a tall candle, is a design marvel, elegantly solving a complex geometrical challenge while maintaining stability and aesthetic appeal. Its accompanying tray, serving the dual function of catching wax and acting as a decorative element, further enhances the utility and beauty of the candleholder. The shadows it casts, reminiscent of infinite loops, add a captivating dimension to its surroundings, making it a standout piece in any space. The dedication to overcoming the significant challenge of designing a functional yet visually stunning mold, which comprises five pieces, showcases an admirable level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. It is evident that a tremendous amount of thought, research, and care has gone into bringing this design from a digital concept to a beautifully realized physical product. Such ingenuity not only enriches our living spaces but also pushes the boundaries of homeware design. This achievement is a clear reflection of the talent and collaborative spirit of Konstantinos Paradeisopoulos and Zeynep Önder Paradeisopoulos, whose work stands as a beacon of innovation in the design world.
