DESIGN NAME: Dida
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chair
INSPIRATION: The Dida chair, inspired by didactics, was created in collaboration with Federico Giner to enhance learning environments. It emphasizes mobility, hygiene, and well-being, ensuring correct posture and comfort. Leveraging injection materials for durability, the design features variable thickness for robustness and ease of movement. Versatile for various educational settings, Dida ensures a comfortable 360º sitting experience. Its adaptability extends beyond classrooms.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Dida gets its name from the concept of didactics and was
created to streamline learning and support active learning
methodologies of the present and the future.
It represents a new step in the collaboration between Alegre
Design and the manufacturer of school furniture, Federico
Giner, and aims to provide a solution for the future needs
of education: mobility, hygiene, and well-being. It is a cross-
disciplinary product for educational environments that ensures
correct posture at all times.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It's stackable for easy storage, transforming space efficiency in classrooms or outdoor areas. Interaction involves ergonomic seating with rounded edges for comfort. The key feature is its single-shell design, promoting better posture. Its robust, antistatic, and stain-resistant nature ensures durability and UV protection enhances outdoor performance. Its recyclability offers an eco-friendly advantage, making it a sustainable choice in furniture design.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Design research entailed applied, objective-driven analysis to create an ergonomic, versatile chair. The methodology included ergonomic studies and material testing. Data was gathered through surveys and prototype evaluations involving educators and students. Results showed high comfort and durability, with significant ergonomic and environmental benefits. This impacted business through sustainable manufacturing practices, society by improving seating comfort in education, and influenced design by merging ergonomics with environmental sustainability.
CHALLENGE: The creative challenge was designing a chair blending ergonomics, durability, and sustainability. Obstacles included balancing these aspects while adhering to manufacturing constraints. Internally, we considered historical and social perspectives on educational furniture. Externally, production capabilities, material availability, and technological advances were crucial factors. Overcoming these hurdles led to a chair that met modern educational needs and sustainability standards.
