DESIGN NAME: Tea Seedling Pots
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sustainable Cup
INSPIRATION: In order to transport tea seedlings, merchants mostly use plastic seedling bags filled with soil for cutting propagation. When tea farmers plant tea seedlings, they need to cut off the outer bag, which not only consumes manpower and damages the root system. Also affects the seedling throwing operation of the tea planting machine and the survival rate of tea seedlings. It is estimated that about 10 million discarded plastic seedling bags will be produced.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Tea-seedling Pots is based on the concept of perpetual circulation, which is suitable for the size of planting equipment, so that tea farmers can transplant mechanically and do lots of planting. The tea branches are used as container materials, and the double-layer structure is used, which contains fertilizers, so that it can completely protect the roots before transplanting, improve the survival rate, and reduce the behavior of tea seedling traders using plastic bags to raise seedlings.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Put the growing tea tree into the outer layer Tea-Seedling POTS for transplantation. The inner layer decomposes automatically in the soil and the outer layer can be broken and mixed into the soil. Making tea seedling pots by collecting tea branches and leaves. Not only can it be friendly to the tea garden environment and self decompose into tea garden fertilizer, but it can also reduce human resources and improve the survival rate of tea seedlings
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in August 2022 and was completed in Taipei, Taiwan in May 2023.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Objective: To learn and understand Waste generated during the process of growing tea and its treatment methods.
Method, Data collection: : Collect tea waste during the tea planting process and dispose of it with plastic straps. With the goal of sustainability, an interview outline was designed. Through interviews with teachers and tea farmers, environmental issues related to tea cultivation were investigated, and the tea environment was improved. Planting was carried out in a friendly environment and tea farmers friendly manner.
Research tools: Adobe Illustrator, procreate, keyshot, tea branch material.
CHALLENGE: Appropriate amount of sodium alginate needs to be added due to the need to strengthen the firmness of the tea seedling pots. And the proportion needs to be constantly adjusted during the process to complete the mold turning.
