PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential House
INSPIRATION: "A way of life, a spiritual path." This design marks a new beginning in the homeowner's life, showcasing a space meticulously crafted to embody a unique style and ambiance. The organized and orderly arrangement not only reflects the client's personality but also underscores the designer's attention to detail. Integrating the client's functional needs with their personal preferences and life philosophy, the designer shapes the space as a captivating prologue to a distinctive journey of existence.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The customer enjoys having friends over and wanted a space where people could interact. The designer opened up the multi-functional room near the entrance and incorporated it into the living room, creating a larger common area. Moving on to the second perspective of the entrance, the designer added a large island combined with a dining table as a visual highlight when entering the house. The long dining area was inspired by the customer's happy hour experience in Milan, where everyone sat down to chat together.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: In the common area, we have placed a central island sofa and a central island dining table. This design provides a comfortable space for people to relax and gather. The central island design of the sofa and dining table allows multiple people to sit together, promoting social interaction and communication. This layout also creates a focal point that attracts people to gather in this public area. Through this design, we have created a warmer and more friendly space where people can enjoy each other's company and engage in conversation.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Dec. 2022 and finished in mar. 2023 in taiwan, and was launched in April 2023.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Based on the feedback from the client who lived in this space for three months, the designer learned that they were highly satisfied with the initial design. The client mentioned that the space met their needs and expectations, providing a comfortable and functional living experience. They particularly liked the central island-shaped sofa and dining table in the public area, as these designs allowed them to interact and share moments with family and friends. They also appreciated the use of curved shapes and the combination of different materials, which created a sense of modern wabi-sabi style and brought about a feeling of relaxation and tranquility.
CHALLENGE: These considerations and collaborations assisted the designer in finding construction methods suitable for implementing curved designs in different materials. By selecting appropriate materials and construction techniques, they successfully transformed the client's requests into tangible designs. Additionally, the designer gained a deeper understanding and experience of construction techniques and material characteristics during this process, which will be valuable for their future design work.
