| DESIGN NAME: Camping Today PRIMARY FUNCTION: Tent Calendar INSPIRATION: With the widespread prevalence of pandemics around the world in recent years, outdoor camping has become increasingly popular in the domestic market. People love to build tents outdoors. Even before going on vacation, while still working or staying at home, people can spend their free time manually assembling a miniature tent, enjoying the fun of camping without leaving their house. It also serves as a place to jot down future camping plans and dates. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is an innovative and interactive calendar that doubles as a DIY camping tent. The mini tent design can be assembled using iron rods and fabric, providing a creative and fulfilling do-it-yourself activity that captures the essence of camping. The calendar also features a storage compartment within the tent's door that can be pulled out like a drawer. Inside is a space for storing stationery and supplies. The back of the calendar includes a small pocket for storing calendar cards and work notes. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This set comes with one main iron bar and four thin iron bars, each with screws that can be unscrewed. The four thin iron bars can be inserted into the main bar to build the structure, which is simple yet reasonable in design. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2022 in Guangzhou China and finished in October 2022, the product was sold to the market in October 2022. It was exhibited and sold at Red Dot Design Museum Xiamen in December 2022. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The do-it-yourself components of the tent calendar are assembled using aluminum alloy and sailcloth fabric. The environmentally friendly packaging, made of durable and cost-effective kraft paper, supports sustainability and easy transportation. Additionally, neatly arranged iron rods protect the product during transit and enhance its display qualities. The calendar's beautiful linen-cut prints depict the joys of camping across all four seasons, evoking a sense of warmth. With the widespread prevalence of pandemics around the world in recent years, outdoor camping has become increasingly popular in the domestic market. People love to build tents outdoors, and this calendar is designed in the shape of a small mini-tent. Users can do-it-yourself assemble it using metal poles and fabric, allowing them to experience the fun of building a tent at home or in the office. It also includes an internal space for storing stationery, which can be pulled out from the tent door curtain like a drawer. The back of the calendar is also designed with a small storage pocket where users can place calendar cards and notes used at work. CHALLENGE: This is a calendar designed to embody both classic style and the appearance of a real tent. Our team put a lot of analysis and design into this product. Given that the primary function is as a calendar, we didn't want the user to struggle too much with assembling the tent. Thus, we had to conduct extensive research and testing on how to thicken the tent poles' structure while making them easy to assemble and not prone to snapping, resulting in the final product's impressive features.
