DESIGN NAME: Chefbox
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Cooker
INSPIRATION: Having multiple stoves and ovens is inconvenient and costly for people with limited living space or living alone.In this situation, multifunctional stoves are required. When a multifunctional pressure cooker and a pizza oven operate concurrently, the generated high-temperature and high-pressure gas can be automatically regulated and used to assist in pizza cooking. As a result, the pizza can be evenly heated and retain moisture in the bread portion, resulting in a juicier and tastier product.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Chefbox is a multipurpose cooker that incorporates a pressure cooker and a pizza oven.It is a smart pressure cooker that generates high-temperature and high-pressure gases to assist pizza cooking.Through a hybrid heating system, it can produce a perfect pizza. It can replace multiple cooking appliances and is aimed primarily at young people who live in small spaces. The app provides users step-by-step instructions for hundreds of recipes and a simple and satisfying lifestyle.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The user can access 14 cooking modes and hundreds of existing digital recipes with a single dial button. Additionally, users can customize their recipes and settings. With Chefbox's digital recipes, people can determine the caloric and nutritional content of various food ingredients. It helps users find healthier cooking and eating methods. Users can control settings for pressure, steam, frying, and pizza making on a single product and interface, as opposed to multiple cooking appliances.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in February 2021 in Los Angeles and finished in August 2022 in Los Angeles, right now are processing the prototype production and will be launched in fourth quarter 2023

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Chefbox has a cube shape and an innovative hybrid heating system with a powerful GDR motor, allowing it to perform a variety of cooking techniques. The hybrid heating system can automatically recycle the high-temperature, high-pressure gas produced by a pressure cooker for pizza cooking. Unlike the single heating tube system, the hybrid heating tube and gas system can produce a perfect pizza. The pizza bread retains a fair amount of moisture and has a juicy flavor. Users will never have to worry about the pizza bread becoming dry, particularly the bread on the circular edges. The main body shell is made of recyclable stainless steel, high-temperature resistance plastics, and food-grade plastics

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Based on the research, people need to spend more than billion dollars on kitchenwares every year around the world. 83% of users bought and own more than 3 different cookers. It is still a huge market. Users need to buy different kitchenwares to finish their cooking tasks. It is painful to clean and maintain multiple cookers and not friendly for people who live in a small space but have variety of needs for cooking.
1. It encourages people to prepare meals at home. With Chefbox, people can cook a delicious meal on their own without having to master numerous cooking techniques. Especially during the COVID pandemic, cooking at home allows people to reduce the risks associated with eating in restaurants.
2. It encourages people to cook and eat for less money. People can select the exact ingredients they desire and save money.
3. Chefbox is made from recyclable plastic and metal. It is a multifunctional product that satisfies a variety of cooking needs without the need to purchase multiple products.
CHALLENGE: The creative challenge is how to design a durable and multifunctional cooker that fit users kitchen environment but also encourages people to prepare and cook meals at home. We spent a lot of time on user research at the beginning of this project and found out pain points of using existing products. During the prototype stage we had a lot of communication with engineers, UX designers to bring this meaningful technology to the real world.
