PRIMARY FUNCTION: Transmission Device
INSPIRATION: As diving enthusiasts, we have tried out the conventional underwater communication devices available on the market, most are found bulky, susceptible to interference and poor in sound quality, which interfere in the underwater movement. This is the situation we want to make a change. A light, wearable and affordable product that assures stable sound quality is expected to deliver more pleasant diving experience.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Underwater Transceiver-mini is a wireless transmission device that supports real-time voice communication depending on the principle of underwater acoustic communication. This device comprises an underwater unit and a bite contact microphone. Scuba diver can wear it to have free communication with others.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Wearing this product, pressing and holding the talk button on the bite contact microphone, then you can talk to the other wearer in real time. Releasing the button, the session will end (call session with more than one devices is also supported). The indicate ring clearly displays the device status and locate the diver’s position. The recording feature guarantees an efficient voice logging of diving process, so that user can readily share his or her diving experiences later. In case of a distress underwater, diver can press the call button to activate SOS call. It can dive up to a depth of 50m underwater, transmits signals up to 75m, and work up to 4 hours
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was kicked off in early 2022 and will proceed to volume production in April 2023.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The device features the state-of-the-art signal processing and sensor. 360° ring signal transmission makes the real time voice transmission impressible reliable and premium. The heat and corrosion resistant casing material not only assures robust properties of the undergraduate unit, but also improves sealing performance. The solid polygonal lines of the underwater unit are perceived as simple, geometric and scientific. The indicator ring reflects the visual identity of the brand. Ripple patterns transversely run across the bite contact which improves the dynamic effect. The call button is designed to prevent sand jamming.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: For underwater unit, overall dimensions: 122mm*91mm*71mm, dry weight: 170g, wet weight: 60g. For bite contact microphone, dry weight: 155g, dry weight: -230g. Battery capacity: 650mAh, 3.7V, charging voltage: 15V/1A. (Dry weight means the weight of the unit exposed to air, wet weight means the weight of the unit in water less buoyancy) Signaling transmission range: 75m, max. working depth: 50m. Duration of use up to 4h. Working temperature: 0-60.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: At the time of product development, we conducted elaborate work to pinpoint the target market and identified weight, portability, communication clarity, fun, and functional integration as pain points of similar products. With regard to weight and portability, we tried out several versions of prototypes in line with the extremely lightweight general arrangement, in order to optimize the dimensions and structure and design the circuit in an integrated and miniaturized way. To improve the transmission efficiency of communication signals underwater, we introduced our state-of-the-art signal processing technology and developed complex denoising principle, so as to make underwater call sessions clearer. The nice looking and color scheme finally present the best production solution and help us address many pain points.
CHALLENGE: How to guarantee sealing performance and make the product more compact and lighter is considered the biggest challenge in the design process. The ultimate structure and circuit design makes the product even more compact without compromising sealing performance, and it also supports the transmission of HD audio even at 50m depth. In addition, compared to conventional products enabling underwater communication by vibration sound transmission, this product picks up sound through the electronic signal of the microphone, making the sound clearer than vibration.
