| DESIGN NAME: Shadows Of The Sky PRIMARY FUNCTION: Flower Troughs INSPIRATION: The warm color and the special shape language are a real eye-catcher. The original shapes of these troughs are figurative sculptures, which were simplified to create a combination between sculptures and useful object. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The material used Corten steel, these troughs remain for eternity. They are indestructible and are constantly changing due to the permanent rusting, which was not stopped here on purpose. Eas is intended to represent the change and transience. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The shapes are clear and straight. The steel used is strong and durable. The plants, which will bloom in the spring, look delicate in them and get a special form of attention through the straight lines of the designer. This contrast between the troughs and the plants, between hard and soft, between the clear design language and the wild nature, was particularly important to the artist. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The planning and implementation of the troughs happened in 2022. They are located in the 4th district in Vienna, Austria. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Corten steel was used for these troughs. This is steel whose surface is treated to activate the rusting process of the steel. This surface treatment gives the material this special warm color and unique look. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: All sculptures together are about 11 meters in length. TAGS: timeless, luxurious, sculpture, unique, corten steel RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The artist proceeded step by step in shaping the troughs. First, the species and quantities of plants were determined. To gain a lot of light in the bedrooms, the maximum height was determined. The viewing directions and angles also played a big role. The slats, which vary in height, are staggered and set at an angle so as not to block the view from the rooms. CHALLENGE: The sculpture groups are each located on the ends of a terrace of a loft in Vienna. They should not only fulfill their function as flower troughs and sculptures, but also serve as privacy screens for the bedrooms. In addition to the design, it was important here to create the appropriate heights and gaps to let as much light as possible into the bedrooms.
