| DESIGN NAME: Timeless Creativity PRIMARY FUNCTION: Web Design INSPIRATION: Recent advancements in artificial intelligence have revealed the potential for AI to transform how we create and interact with art. This inspired Andrew C Li, a creative technologist and designer, to develop the web-based art project "What If Artists Have a Time Machine." The website showcases what modern worlds might look like through the lenses of renowned artists from the past. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This web art project tells a story about artists from the past who travel through time machines to the modern world. Each artist incorporates the life of the contemporary world, embracing new roles and identities. By combining the styles of old and new art with the help of AI, we've created a distinct and unparalleled aesthetic. This project invites us to explore the relationship between AI and art in a deeper way, encouraging us to consider how they can merge and complement each other. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The web art project has a single-page layout featuring three artists. The first section provides an overview of the project with visuals emphasizing the effect of time travel. The second section offers a slider where users can select a renowned artist to bring them to the modern world. In the third section, users can explore the new life of old artists, such as Vincent Van Gogh as a world traveler, Pablo Picasso as a computer programer, etc. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The first draft of the project started in late 2022 during a personal trip to Singapore. The final draft was completed in February 2023 in Shanghai. Web development began in February 2023 and will be finished in April 2023. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: UX/UI design: Figma & Adobe Illustrator; Image retouching: Adobe Photoshop; AI: Midjourney SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Responsive design for laptops, smartphones, tablets, and other devices TAGS: Art, Technology, AI, Minimalism, Modern, Painting RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As our project involves the intersection of art and artificial intelligence, our initial focus was to investigate whether AI could help us achieve our goal of fusing the styles of past artists with contemporary elements. Our team of technicians experimented with multiple models, generating over a hundred images and refining our approach. Subsequently, we incorporated bold shapes, colors, and fonts into the interface and visual design, enhancing the synergy between our artwork and web elements. CHALLENGE: The initial challenge of this project involved the task of effectively matching the artists with appropriate contemporary roles. After conducting over 10 brainstorming sessions, we arrived at a final plan that sufficiently addressed this challenge. Secondly, the production of creative elements with the artists' respective styles using AI necessitated a rigorous research and development phase.
