PRIMARY FUNCTION: Desktop Application
INSPIRATION: IIn the design of Douyin desktop application, having a sense of Douyin brand and PC-end products are two crucial keywords. The breakthrough of product construction is to provide an experience design that not only has the DNA of the Douyin brand but also conforms to the characteristics of PC equipment, which makes Douyin PC a more unique existence than other products.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Douyin PC includes web and desktop application. In order to meet the needs of computer users for large screen consumption in scenarios such as home&leisure and off duty. We provide recommended channels, live broadcast, shopping, private message interactive experience and so on. We hope that in the computer scene, Douyin PC will be the first choice when our users discover and consume content. The content will be rich and diverse, the product will be able to meet diversified needs.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The left navigation provides more vertical channels, and the recommended page is opened by default.Users can scroll the mouse to switch videos, use shortcut keys to like and bookmark, and can also shop while watching videos. It is also very convenient to give gifts while watching live broadcasts.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was launched in China in June 2021, with the Douyin web version launched.The Windows application was launched in January 2022, and the Mac application was launched in June 2022. This is an ongoing process with updates depending on new needs.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In the user research phase, we use qualitative and quantitative tools such as user interviews, competitive product analysis, and data analysis to mine and analyze user needs. In the design phase, we use Figma, Adobe After Effect, and Principle to design this desktop application and user interface,and build a unique design system. In the product launch stage, we continuously analyze and verify through AB test, carry out product iteration through data feedback, and bring users the ultimate content consumption experience through accurate recommendation algorithms.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The application is designed for all MacOS and Windows desktop sizes,and adopts an adaptive design.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: User research: We collect user needs for content consumption and product satisfaction through user interviews, NPS satisfaction surveys, survey questionnaires, focus groups, etc., to find directions for exploration;
Human-computer interaction: through research on PC equipment characteristics, system capabilities and user habits to ensure product ease of use;
Other research: testing, AB test, data analysis.
CHALLENGE: In the process of product development, implementation or research, we mainly face two challenges: due to the large and growing user group, we need to respond to changing and diverse user needs and constantly iterate product functions. At product design level, designers need to constantly explore how to provide users with a better and more differentiated consumption experience in the PC scenario.
