DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Lockdown Shelter

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Residence

INSPIRATION:
The site is located halfway up the mountain, and the project was carried out during the epidemic with a design that prioritized the ability to exercise at home in case of future lockdowns. The design team created a wrap-around walkway that draws natural light into the room. The clients, who are nearing retirement, wanted a large-scale space that would be as relaxing as the view from the windows. At the same time, the design team planned functionalities according to the client's future needs, creating a relaxing residence that harmonizes with the surrounding mountains and forests.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The circular layout of the progressive residence offers intuitive and diverse options to the occupants when facing the turning points. When there are only two people in the space, the window side sliding door can be opened to enjoy the window view and enhance the interior lighting. In this way, the spaciousness is not limited to the outdoors but can be filled inside. When visitors drop in, the sliding doors provide a highly flexible space, and the circular walkway allows for high space utilization by the number of people.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
According to its definition, the 'progressive39; retirement home can be changed in the future according to the needs of the clients. First, it can become a space for middle-aged people to exercise. When there is no partition in the circular walkway, the comfortable and spacious space can serve yoga, fitness, and other situations. Secondly, it can be a perfect place for family and friends to visit. The open-plan public area with a large-scale kitchen island and bar can accommodate more than 20 people.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project finished in August 2022 in Taiwan.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Building materials: architectural concrete, large chamfered wood floors, cypress, quartz tiles, marble, metal tiles, wallpaper, stainless steel, etc. The project is based on natural materials and colors. The walls are made of light-colored wood grain and architectural concrete. The rustic architectural concrete is displayed on the main visual walls, such as the TV wall and bar wall, while the flooring is covered with dark quartz tiles and wood flooring. As for the lines, the design team used herringbone and 1/3 flooring to present multiple layers.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The original layout was 4 bedrooms. In consideration of the number of main users, the designers took the extra room space to expand the master bathroom to provide a more comfortable experience. The clients can enjoy a relaxing bath while viewing the scenery of the bamboo forest outside the window. As for the private area, it is an open plan. The spacious dining room and kitchen are well-equipped and functional, including a bar area with a juice machine, a customized cypress table, and an electronic screen for hanging pictures.

TAGS:
Large space, open plan, architectural concrete, neutral colors, grayscale.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The project is in a high-rise apartment halfway up the hill, with fresh air and abundant daylight. The interior design prioritizes the amplification of these conditions. The circular walkway eliminates partitions and optimizes lighting, while the light-transmitting, yet private, glass sliding doors enhance lighting and maintain privacy for the private area. The interior retains the original look of materials and removes ornamentation, reducing decorative trims and unnecessary decorative materials in the large space.

CHALLENGE:
It is not difficult to achieve a reduced interior design, but it is hard to achieve only the essence and retain the aesthetics in a large space. Reduction is not about empty space, but considering the living function, daily needs, and the visual expression of the space with as little decoration as possible. The design team took two elements, "wood and stone", to create various possibilities in the project. The warmth of the wood and the strength of the stone can meet the needs of the interior design.

NAME:
Fontal Interior Design Co., Ltd.

PROFILE:
"Fontal" in the original text means "fountain", or "fundamental". The term "Fengtong" comes from the Later Han Dynasty, which means dense forests and endless life. Starting from the "root", the root of space lies in the occupants. Starting from the planning of an environment with a humanistic concept, the interior façade expression is combined with the context of the urban scene, and the residents' expectations for life are integrated into the residents' desire for life. With natural imagery as the keynote, it becomes the main axis of the extension of the spatial scale and constructs a design that is in line with the soul. Sedimentary living container. Return space to space, and shape the existence value of space freedom. Integrate the feelings for the family into the design, to give the family a real and warm sense of stability, and hope that the space can present the best state of comfort, inclusiveness, and complete life functions; let people in it feel at the moment, and put aside the hustle and bustle of the city. At the same time, you can also have a private ideal state, no pressure, and a space to completely release and experience your true self. Through the factors of sunlight, air, and water, the unique and exclusive characteristics of the space are laid out. There are no repeated lines or components, and the splendor of the space is restored. Every creativity depends on the life attitude of the occupants, the essence of the building, and the Harmonious symbiosis of the urban environment; the only thing in common is: "suitable for the situation, the house is like its own people."
