DESIGN NAME: Leafing Page
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: The project is designed for a family with three generations. The design team takes the concepts of "book pages" and "leaves" to infuse the space. Inspired by the giant's library, the design team presents the pages of books in all corners of the space. Books can be a container to carry memories and record the family's life and echo the library in the building. The family's lineage is like the leaves of a tree branching out and shining in their respective fields.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The imagery of the book page is presented between the cabinet, the space, and the function. For example, in the public area, facing the aisle, there are cabinets staggered as if they were huge books. Facing the TV wall, the glass sliding door of the bookcase reveals the solid and void, presenting interest and aesthetics to the interplay of light and shadow while translating 'storage' into writing in the space. The project symbolizes the close relationship between family members through the open plan of the public area and the leaf veins.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The overall color tone and atmosphere of the space are harmonious. The interior is not overly colorful or flamboyant but contains delicate textures and shows tension and rhythm. The comfort of just right is the most in line with the aesthetics of the residence. In particular, the storage cabinets in the space have sliding doors, which can create a multifaceted effect.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in July 2021 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Building materials: solid wood veneer, glass, marble slate, Spanish ceramic board, imported wallpaper, tawny mirror, laminate flooring, baking paint. The space is narrow due to the number of rooms. To achieve a spacious effect, the design team uses penetrating materials to facilitate lighting. For example, glass is installed in the partition beside the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, and glass is used as sliding doors for the storage cabinets. In addition, the direction of each piece of wood grain in the space is also elaborate.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The site is on the third floor of a new apartment. Its total area is 115.7 square meters, with 3 plus 1 rooms, a living room, and a dining room. The site is on the 3rd floor, and from the front balcony can see the canopy of trees connecting to the sky. The private area has a spacious balcony. The original layout was 4 rooms, and the cramped layout made it impossible to utilize the advantages of the space well. In the layout planning, the design team removes the study room partition and integrates it with the public area to present a 3 plus-1 room layout.
TAGS: Book, leaf, three generations, open plan, neutral tone.
RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design adopts the concept of a giant library to translate the storage cabinet into a large book. Storage is also a metaphor for the passage of time. The family lineage is compared to the leaf vein, and the change from the public area to the private area is alluded to by the change of color tone. The public area has natural elements such as earth tones and stone patterns, representing the soil and essence that nourishes the family. The private area has different shades of green to symbolize the space for different age groups.
CHALLENGE: The challenge of the project is the direction of the design. The space was originally planned as real estate. Although the client is the builder, the potential future homeowner must be taken into consideration. Therefore, the design requires striking a balance between the aesthetics desired by the builder and the functionality of living. Another challenge is the construction time. Complete the construction of the foundation and the selection of furniture in two months, it requires the team's execution of the assignment and the selection of materials.
