DESIGN NAME: Unite
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: The project serves an extended family of five people. Due to the age range of the family members, each of them has different requirements and aesthetic views. The design team struck a balance between traditional and modern design in this project. Classical trims and neat lines can be seen in the space, complemented by a neutral tone that overpowers both. Finally, brushed metal in the details enhanced the overall ambiance.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The design team used a combination of grilles, tongue and groove, and chamfered corners to create a balance of straight lines and soft curves. The dressing room in the host's area is shaped like a diamond, adding space and providing an overview of all the accessories. The hostess's space features a beautifully curved metal panel, contrasting the rigidness of the metal with its gentle curves for an interesting design. These two personalized designs not only reflect the users' temperaments and personalities but are also functional.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After redesigning its color, layout, and style, each area of the house is connected. The consistent color tone creates a sense of flow in the overall space. The boundaries between areas are weakened, visually enlarging the interior. The theme of each area is clear, but not distracting from each other. When users are in their private space, they can enjoy the atmosphere formed by the design team.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in January 2023 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Building materials: titanium panel, flat bricks, system cabinets, special paint, titanium-plated trim, grilles, glass, crystal chandeliers, etc. The color scheme is a light tone. Considering that dark colors would lead to a limited visual effect, the design team used elegant gold and wood grain with warm light to create a stylish residence with a hotel-like atmosphere. The most special material is the titanium panel of the desk in the master bedroom on the second floor. The design team installed a curved titanium panel on the side of the desk to create a sense of rhythm.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The first floor is a garage and public area, with flexible planning as the core. The design team installed a glass sliding door as the boundary between the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The glass is light transmitting but protects privacy and keeps out grease and smoke. The second floor has a bedroom and outdoor terrace for the hostess and has a large four-piece bathroom. The third and fourth floors have the same layout and are customized bedrooms for other family members. The fifth floor is a storage room and a Buddhist hall.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The family is composed of many members, so each floor of the five-story house has its theme and echoes each other. The design team analyzed the site conditions and reconstructed the layout. The open plan creates a smooth traffic flow. At the same time, the design team integrated each member's aesthetic requirements to create an interior design that is classical, modern, stylish, sophisticated, and elegant. As an extended family, each person's personality is different, and only when they come together can they form a home.
CHALLENGE: The project is a renovation of an old house, and most of the original materials were retained and reused. The challenge of the project was not only to meet the needs and expectations of the client but also to present the old materials in a new way. In addition, the plumbing had to be re-planned for changes in the layout. To conclude, renovating an old house is a matter of re-examining the condition of the site and evaluating whether to keep or abandon the original materials. Moreover, it is also necessary to translate the preserved parts into a brand-new look.
