| DESIGN NAME: Task PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Desk INSPIRATION: The project's genesis was my desire to create a personal workspace that is clutter-free integrating all my tools. During a significant shift in our time, many people find themselves working out of their homes, so the need to be comfortable and organized while conserving space is more important than ever. Furthermore, the object should blend seamlessly into the aesthetics of your current surroundings. I was inspired by mid-century design and organic quality but with a contemporary feel. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Task's uniqueness lies in its aesthetic quality and compact size without compromising on the features used in today's world. If you do not have a separate office, it can be placed anywhere in your home. You still want an organized, clean workspace. Everything is concealed when not in use and designed for comfort and ease of use. “The desk includes a light that illuminates the countertop without glare, integrated Wi-Fi speakers that are Alexa-enabled, concealed wire management behind the sliding door, charging under-mounts for phones and tablets, a mailbox for miscellaneous items, and a modular plant system on the top shelf according to standard sizes available at all box retailers. The desk has a soft-to-the-touch stain-free vinyl cover. This drawer is organized with movable trays to accommodate a variety of utensils." OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Utilizing the desk allows for a seamless and convenient workflow as all of the necessary technological tools are always accessible. A wave of the hand is all it takes to turn on the light, and charging a phone or tablet is just as easy with an undermount charger . Moreover, the desk features Wi-Fi and Alexa-enabled speakers, making it simple to use voice commands or a smartphone to play music. To add a personal touch, the desk's top has specifically designed modules that house a standard size plants or a picture frame. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project began in January 2021, spanning two years of designing, from preliminary concept sketches to computer-generated drawings to 3D models, to eventually constructing multiple variations of the prototype before finally completing the desired version. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The desk is crafted from sturdy materials that form a durable product. Its legs, mailbox, and wishbone crossbar, constructed from beautiful solid walnut-stained wood, provide solid support. The countertop is completed with a writer's block special vinyl, providing a gentle texture and protecting against ink stains. Lastly, a triangular top tier, made from 1/16" perforated sheet metal, encloses hidden integrated speakers. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The desk dimensions are W 1118 mm X H 762 mm X D 710 mm, the desk consists of seven parts as follows: One top tier triangular shape with prewired plug, two legs, a crossbar, and two side panels. The whole desk is flat packed and shipped anywhere with assembly instructions included to be easily assembled in the customers place. TAGS: Smart desk, workspace, writing desk, secretary desk, compact desk, compact workstation. work space RESEARCH ABSTRACT: My initial research on user experience laid the foundation for me to study similar challenges being tackled by competitors in the industry and evaluate their solutions. To further deepen my understanding, I read several pieces of literature related to ergonomics and current technology, as well as explore components that have been designed to solve comparable issues. CHALLENGE: Developing this product presented an enormous challenge, as it involved multiple disciplines, from metalworking and electrical engineering to illumination. Bringing this concept to fruition demanded collaboration between a variety of manufacturers and stakeholders. The furniture is designed and engineered to be easily assembled and flat-packed so that it can be shipped anywhere in the world. |
