| DESIGN NAME: Bisu PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bed INSPIRATION: Named after the Sardinian word for “dream”, this magnificent frame designed by Matteo Congiu will provide an excellent sleeping experience thanks to its smooth and clean lines. In BISU there is the essence of the OTQ brand: the quality of sleep becomes the quality of life. Therefore, sleeping on cork means losing yourself in the history of your land, places, memories, language, but also the sensorial and tactile features of the matter. It means sleeping better to live longer. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: BISU is the first cork bed in the world which is capable to join functionality, ethics of well-being and design. The absence of metallic components, the naturalness of cork, its antistatic properties protect the sleep from the destabilising action of magnetic and electrostatic flows. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Bisu is the only bed entirely made of cork in the world, that manages to combine functionality and design. Bisu bed is the only one in which there is no any metal parts and thanks to cork,100 % natural material and antistatic, all strains that affect the rest are solved. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2017 in Ortacesus, Sardinia; after months of research and testing, the product was ready to be presented for the first time at the IMM in Cologne in 2018, the same year it has presented in Dubai Downtown design. Subsequently it was exhibited in London Design Festival in 2019, Boutique Design New York in 2021 and at Maison & Objet in Paris in 2022. FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: 100% Hand made in Sardinia, with sardinian cork. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 2200 mm x 2000 mm x 350 mm TAGS: Cork, bed, antistatic, natural, sustainable, antibacterial, minimal, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Sleeping well and have a good regenerative sleep are aspects to reckon, since these have such a huge impact on how we live the next day. Our body during a rest attracts magnetic waves and static electricity, disturbing our daily sleep and causing severe psycho-physical problems and emotional disorder in the long term. Metallic elements such as screws and joints, located in the most of the beds, increase the electrostatic flows, which passing through our body makes it a real magnet. CHALLENGE: All the process was very hard. The design of the structure wasn’t strong, so it has been necessary to work on new joints for the internal structure without modify the design. The curves of the bed are necessary because they prevent to the magnetic flows to attach the bed’s surface. The design is inspired to Japanese furniture and style. Minimal and essential.
