| DESIGN NAME: Shazhou Youhuang PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cultural Park INSPIRATION: The biggest design inspiration was to demonstrate and protect the heritage of Chinese yellow rice wine while expressing the history, culture, and production techniques of the Su tradition. The project, a blend of traditional and abstract modern architectural features with distinct characteristics of yellow rice wine, is now a cultural, scenic spot, bringing generations of people together. A cultural experience, through a contemporary transition of the traditional experience, rich with heritage and poetic nostalgia. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Located 90 minutes away from Shanghai, the site is adjacent to the existing factory complex in Zhangjiagang, along the Yangtze river. The new plan includes facilities that are serving production while becoming an architectural landmark. An industrial tourism destination, a leisurely environment, based on a combination of Jiangnan architecture elements and the modern Chinese abstractions. A various commercial street, with modern cultural functions, innovative industrial facilities, making it economically, socially and architecturally the highlight of the city. From the abstraction of traditional architectural language and elements, the project reflects the memory of the iconic walls inspired by the historic hui style houses, water features and landscape elements, lane dimensions, signature colors of exterior facades and roofing details, openings, and rhythms…all reminiscent of the Jiangnan old town characteristics. NAME: Senem Cennetoglu PROFILE: Senem Cennetoglu received her degree in architecture from Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts, Istanbul. After completing her MBA program in New York, she moved to Los Angeles in 2005 and worked for the late architect, Jon A. Jerde, FAIA. Since 2012 she’s been living and working in Shanghai, collaborating with award-winning US architecture design firms focusing primarily on retail and mixed-use projects. She is the founder and owner of DSI. While the majority of its business focuses on architectural design and consulting services to developers around the world, in addition DSI invests in real estate, and property management. Architectural design services include all phases of the creative and technical process of architecture such as masterplanning, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation review and construction management. With its locations in Shanghai, Los Angeles and Istanbul, DSI also provides corporate branding and interior design services as needed. |
