| DESIGN NAME: Journey Mate PRIMARY FUNCTION: Sound Explored Backpack INSPIRATION: A new backpack enriches the role of travelers in their journey and make them to become a "voice designer" of the journey. Exploring and visualizing the interactive form of sound, that change the urban public life into a huge acoustic library. With the support of technology, Journey Mate provides travelers with a visual and listening multi-sensory experience, while keeping the human culture elements of each city. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Journal Mate is a smart modular backpack that enriches the travel experience. The innovation of the product are as follows. 1. The smart module offers travelers to collect sound samples of local languages via communicating with local individuals, triggering the pleasantness of multi-sensory interaction; 2. All sounds are visualized as waveform diagrams and collected into a personal Urban Sound Library, so as to achieve a sense of acquisition; 3. The modular structure provides users with a sense of control that is easy to store and carry all day long. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: 1. The modular design of Journey Mate supports the storage and carriable of the whole journey, and it also supports two forms of backpack and shoulder bag. 2. When the user talks with local people in a specific region, the smart module automatically captures and stores their sound as samples. 3. Journey Mate processes the audio through algorithms and displays the generated sound waveforms on the screen of the backpack. 4. All sound waveforms are collected into the Urban Sound Library and World Footprint Library. After the trip, users can recall the happy moments during the trip via urban sound library. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2022 in Shanghai and finished in February 2023 in Shanghai. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: To the implementation of the algorithm, we promote the image generation of sound waves via sound recognition and analysis algorithm models. To the realization of materials, 100% recycled polyester is adopted in the body of bags, and leather is used for details (e.g., zipper, buckles). SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 505*300*160 mm (shoulder bag 420mm high, shoulder bag 85mm high). Capacity 20L TAGS: Modular Travel Backpack, Smart Backpack, Voice Exploration, Sound and Media, Multi-sensory Experience, Fashion Accessories RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Background: Multisensory technology is gradually applied to the field of fashion multimedia design. Our research aims to enhance the user's pleasure perception and meaning experience of fashion multimedia products and fashion behaviors via multi-sensory design. Result: This work is a modular smart backpack that enriches the travel experience. Journey Mate collects voices during the journey and transforms them into a visual sound library and world footprint library, provides the pleasure and memory experience of visual and auditory interaction. Impact: It helps to promote the intelligent and emotional development of fashion design works. CHALLENGE: 1. The biggest challenge of the project is to realize new interaction methods. We need to know a lot about how to build input and output modules for device. 2. The design of the backpack itself should be flexible and user-friendly, and each independent form should be durable. 3. To what extent does the final product enrich the user's multi-sensory experience.
