| DESIGN NAME: Udi H1 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Steam Sterilizer and Dryer INSPIRATION: Udi H1 allows the new parent to use their intuitive judgment, and that is enough. The new parent will know how to use the sterilizer and dryer without effort, because it applies behavioral science to the degree that they can sterilize and dry the baby's feeding equipment without asking for assistance, and be less likely to need the user manual. It breaks down the repetitive tasks of bottle-sterilizing every day - from washing the bottles carefully, loading them into the big basket, assembling the parts to operating the appliance correctly - into an intuitively designed machine. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Udi H1 provides a way to support the new parent that does not involve feeding, but helps out with everyday feeding. Intuitively designed, so they can sterilize and dry the baby's feeding equipment without the user manual. Its crisp and concise look boosts mood and blends into the decor. The patented unique water-pouring corner saves the hassle of removing the basket. Ultra silent to be used in a quiet bedroom, the 360° Cyclo-steam sterilization kills 99.9% of germs in 7 minutes. With the omnidirectional hot air, it dries as fast as 40 minutes, leaving the bottles dry and sterile for each feed. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Udi H1's 360° Cyclo-steam sterilization eliminates 99.9% of harmful germs in 7 minutes. Equipped with three patents: the designated easy water-pouring area, the omnidirectional air outlet grille enhancing the drying speed by 20%, and the adjustable dust-proof sliding cover. The water-pouring corner saves the hassle of removing the basket, improving the traditional water-pouring way of earlier appliances. The drying time in auto mode has been shortened to 40 minutes. The cycle finishes by leaving the bottles dry inside and consequently difficult for bacteria to grow in. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2019 in Taiwan. Product launch via the official online store on 1st September 2022. Available in pharmacies and baby stores nationwide since 8th September 2022. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Udi H1 has a simple look that blends into the decor, be it the kitchen or the bedroom. Opting for matte surface as water does not stay on it, it hardly collects dust. The glossy finish on the inside leaves no water streaks or stains. Because of its square shape, Udi H1 saves more space than round containers - the ultra capacious interior fits 9 full-size bottles. The new parent can batch sterilize bottles before bedtime in order to prepare for the feeding sessions ahead. With the non-directional lid, small basket and main basket, no alignment is required to piece them together. We refined the appliance talking to new moms around us and monitoring feedback shared by sleep-deprived new parents on social media. Udi H1 can be kept in the bedroom, it works more quietly than when a person speaks in a normal conversation. Parents can easily set up the auto mode and batch sterilize bottles before bedtime. Having a fresh set of clean bottles at hand for overnight feeds reduces disrupted sleep. CHALLENGE: The development of Udi H1 was to make life with a baby more humane. We needed to break down the repetitive tasks into an intuitive approach. We found that parents got frustrated especially when, having loaded the washed bottles into the basket, they failed to carry it onto the base without water dripping all the way. We then came up with the handy drip tray. Our research also resulted in providing a choice of drying times; thus the items can be easily dried, be it a few small accessories or a full load of bottles - optimizing the performance of sterilization and drying while saving time and energy.
