PRIMARY FUNCTION: TV Stand
INSPIRATION: The impetus for developing this new TV stand was to reduce wasted space.
As the size of TVs becomes larger, TV boards are also getting bigger. As for wall-mounted TVs, they require installation work and repeated height adjustment will become a cumbersome process.
WALL V4 provides a solution to such difficulties.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: With WALL V4, almost any TV can be mounted neatly by hanging it on the wall.
Large size TVs (up to 90 inch) from various manufacturers can be installed safely at the preferred height of users. Assembly work is quite simple and requires no special revamping in the room. No wirings or screws are visible externally bringing a sense of harmony and unity with the interior of the user’s living environment.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The height of the supporting column can be adjusted with 8 levels (of 5 mm each). Since the metal bracket matches the shape of the back of the TV, it allows fine positional adjustment. Most TV types can be installed at the users’ preferred height. Optional shelves can also be added to expand this TV stand to suit the needs of all users.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2020, and its development was completed in November 2021. The product was put into the market in January 2022.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The structure is based on a 2 mm steel plate that was pressed into a 3D shape and supported by a radial frame in order to achieve a thickness of 2 mm between the base and the floor. The supporting pillar and cables are hidden inside a double-layered panel, The panel slides along that extends when changing the height. Satin powder coating was applied to the entire body, and a woodgrain finish was baked on the surface of the panel giving a texture of high-quality furniture.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As conventional TV benches/stands are usually too bulky and easily stands out in a confined room space, our design focused on bringing the TV as close as possible to the wall by reducing the TV stand’s thickness and hiding the TV wiring. Based on the knowledge that a step of 3 mm on the floor can stumble a person, we focused our attention to reduce the thickness of the base for safety reasons so that it makes a simpler and more organized setup.
CHALLENGE: The challenge was to secure strength in a very thin base structure. Since an iron plate alone does not have enough strength, the base includes a set of enforcing elements radially arranged to complement the strength of the 2 mm plate. This structure provides visual neatness and effective spatial utilization. This method proved its effectiveness through repeated vibration tests in a lab that can simulate the strongest earthquakes in Japan.
