| DESIGN NAME: Ultra Mariner PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lighting Planter System INSPIRATION: Our studio used to be on a farm surrounded by nature. After relocating to an urban environment, we truly grasped the profound human need to remain connected to nature and its calming influence on our well-being. This inspired us, and we thought of enhancing the biophilic experience by harmoniously integrating plants and light. Our vision was to create a multifunctional, fully customizable product family, designed to bring light and greenery to every corner of any space. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Our biophilic design merges innovative lighting with the benefits of greenery in a modular system. The system offers endless configurations for any space, featuring laser-cut metal structures, durable aluminum planters, and customizable Led lighting. Its flexibility allows adaptation to various environments, enhancing air quality and reducing stress. By blending nature with advanced lighting, our design promotes well-being and redefines indoor environments with sustainability and aesthetics. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Modules are connected with screws. Lighting modules are connected by easy-to-use plugs. Motors can be integrated into high-ceiling spaces for easy cleaning and maintenance. Plants can be irrigated by hand or by using innovative solutions such as gel cubes or smart drippers, which are becoming more common. We recommend the Solidrip irrigation system, This system ensures efficient, low-maintenance plant care, and reflects our mutual commitment to integrating nature seamlessly into spaces. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Our system is crafted using laser-cut 3mm metal silhouettes, assembled into 3D structures with temporary connectors, then hand-welded galvanized and powder-coated for durability. It features a 3 cm Led profile with translucent clips and easy-to-use plugs for seamless installation. Planters are made from aluminum and PVC for longevity and low maintenance. Our streamlined production process ensures both high-quality output and efficient assembly, making it adaptable to various spaces. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The system features customizable pendants with integrated planters. The lighting modules are 120 mm in diameter and in the range of 400 to 2000 mm, using an energy-efficient 3 cm Led profile. The planters are 150 mm in diameter and 150 mm in height designed for a range of indoor plants, providing flexibility in both lighting and greenery arrangements. This modular approach allows the system to adapt seamlessly to different environments and spatial requirements. RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The research for the Ultra Mariner Family focused on integrating biophilic principles into lighting design, studying the impact of greenery and natural light on well-being. We explored how different lighting temperatures and plant species interact to create stress-reducing environments. Material testing ensured durability and efficiency, leading to a flexible, sustainable system. The insights gained shaped a product that enhances both aesthetics and well-being in indoor spaces. CHALLENGE: The main challenge was to seamlessly integrate planters and lighting into a single, cohesive system that balances functionality with aesthetics. We needed to ensure that the combination of greenery and light not only enhanced the space visually but was also practical and easy to maintain. Overcoming production limitations, such as material durability and energy-efficient lighting, required innovative approaches to achieve both flexibility and harmony in the final design.
